Russia has repeatedly stated that Ukraine has the competency, capability, and technologies as well as abundance of raw materials to develop biological and nuclear weapons that can be used against Russian civilian targets.
During his meeting to ensure the national security of the North Caucasian Federal District in Grozny on March 15, Russian Federation Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev stated that “the creation of nuclear weapons by Ukraine would threaten the security of the whole world and provoke the outbreak of a nuclear war; Russia could not allow uncontrolled Ukrainian nationalists to have them.”
Patrushev further said that “It has become obvious that it is the American advisers who encourage and help the Kyiv regime in the creation of biological and nuclear weapons.”
According to Patrushev, a large number of foreign advisors and consultants are present in Ukraine to help Kyiv in developing biological and nuclear arms.
The accusations first surfaced from the Russian Foreign Ministry on March 3. Russian Foreign Ministry accused Kyiv of playing ‘dangerous games’ regarding its plans of acquiring nuclear weapons against Russia. Although the claims were not backed by any substantial evidence or an explanation on how Ukraine is going forward in acquiring the weapons.
In response to Russia’s claims, NATO has expressed grave concerns claiming Russia’s accusations are nothing but a ‘false flag’ and a strategic maneuver to further intensify its invasion of Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated, “We are concerned Moscow could stage a false flag operation in Ukraine, possibly with chemical weapons.”
The United States also denied the Russian accusation of supporting Ukraine with nuclear weapons or weapons development technologies. The U.S. termed Russia’s claims and accusations to be ‘laughable’ as there is no evidence of the U.S. being involved in a kind of bio-warfare or nuclear weapons development in Ukraine.
The U.S. officials also suggested that such claims are a pretext from Moscow to deploy its own biological and chemical weapons against Ukraine.
Several Russian media outlets and Russian government officials have been reporting about biological and chemical weapons labs that are being destroyed by the Ukrainian military and armed nationalist groups amid the Russian invasion in order to remove the evidence of weapons development.
A similar report surfaced on March 14 that accused Ukrainian forces of intentionally sabotaging Avdiivka advanced chemistry plant in the Donetsk region of Ukraine on March 13 to destroy the evidence of biological weapons that were being developed in the vicinity.
