Sikorsky has introduced a containerized system that carries four Nomad 100 uncrewed aircraft and the equipment needed to operate them, allowing military forces to deploy and relocate vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drones without relying on runways or permanent facilities.
Unveiled on October 12, 2026, at the Association of the U.S. Army’s annual meeting in Washington, the Nomad 100 Fast Pack fits inside a standard 20-foot shipping container. In its planned configuration, two aircraft can be ready for missions in less than 15 minutes, while the other two can be prepared within four to six hours.
The Fast Pack contains four Nomad 100 aircraft, mission-command software, power supplies, communications equipment, and sustainment tools. The integrated package is designed to reduce the equipment, personnel, and logistical support required to deploy autonomous aircraft in remote or infrastructure-limited locations.
The system can operate from naval vessels, tactical vehicle staging areas, and improvised landing zones. After completing a mission, crews can repack the equipment, load the container onto a compatible transport vehicle, and move it to another operating location.
Depending on its configuration, the system can support intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting (ISR-T), light-attack and contested-logistics missions. These capabilities are intended to provide military forces with a mobile aerial platform for operations where conventional airfields and extensive ground support are unavailable or vulnerable.
Sikorsky said the system addresses the U.S. military’s demand for more autonomous aircraft that can be deployed, sustained, and repositioned quickly in contested environments.
Combining Helicopter and Airplane
The Nomad 100 has an 18-foot wingspan and falls within Group 3 of the U.S. military’s uncrewed aircraft classification system.
The system uses Sikorsky’s rotor-blown-wing design, which combines vertical lift and hovering capabilities with the speed, range, and endurance associated with fixed-wing aircraft.
The aircraft is powered by Sikorsky’s MATRIX autonomy software, which enables operator-directed autonomous flight and mission execution.
The system is designed to move beyond basic automated flight by allowing aircraft to plan, execute, and adapt operations under operator supervision. Sikorsky has not disclosed the Nomad 100’s payload capacity, operational range, or endurance.
Development Under DARPA’s EVADE Program
Sikorsky developed the Nomad 100 with funding from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) under its Early VTOL Aircraft Demonstration (EVADE) program.
In July 2026, the company announced that the aircraft had completed its initial ground and flight testing and would proceed to a more intensive flight-test campaign at a government facility. DARPA selected MATRIX as the autonomy system for all five aircraft participating in the EVADE program.
Sikorsky introduced the Nomad family in October 2025 following flight testing of the smaller Nomad 50 prototype, which has a 10.3-foot wingspan. The Nomad 100 is the larger aircraft in the family.
The Fast Pack announcement did not confirm whether a complete containerized system has been built or whether any military service has ordered or begun evaluating it.
