Russia’s “Orion” Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV) destroyed Ukraine’s Aidar Battalion post

Russian Aerospace Forces Orion (Inokhodets) drone crew targeted Ukraine’s Aidar nationalist battalion command and observation post in Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Russian forces published a video showing the drone targeting the Ukrainian Aidar battalion command post with a guided missile strike.

The satellite-operated UAV “Orion” is the latest addition to the Russian forces. The middle-altitude long-flight UAV is developed by Russia’s leading arms development industry Kronshtadt Group and it is capable of carrying any type of modern weapon.

The drone can cruise at a speed of up to 200 kilometers per hour with a maximum altitude of 7.5 kilometers. The 16m wingspan Orion has a flight endurance of up to 24 hours and direct communication range of 250km, and 300km with a relay UAV.

Earlier in October 2021, the Kronshtadt Group CEO Sergei Bogatikov stated that the Orion drone has the capability of launching all sorts of modern combating weapons and holds the ability to carry a payload of up to 200 kilograms.

The Russian military has extensively used drones to carry out airstrikes and reconnaissance during operations in Syria. Last year in July, the Russian defense firm announced the mass production of the Orion drones and the establishment of a new production plant in Dubna, Russia.

Russia’s Tass news agency reported on March 4 that Kronshtadt Group also seeks to equip Orion UAVs with the latest electronic warfare systems.
