U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress bombers departed Spain to return to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, concluding Bomber Task Force Europe 26-1 after a two-week deployment focused on strengthening global power projection and multinational interoperability.

The mission featured an extensive program of joint training across multiple theaters involving Allied and partner nations under the U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command, and U.S. Central Command areas of responsibility.

During the deployment, which concluded on November 24, 2025, B-52 aircrews executed complex, high-end training scenarios with air forces across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

“This Bomber Task Force demonstrated our ability to seamlessly integrate with Allies and partners across USEUCOM, USAFRICOM, and USCENTCOM, showcasing the U.S. Air Force’s commitment to Allied combat power and regional security,” said Lt. Col. Matthew Dougherty, 96th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron commander.

The training program focused on real-time coordination, threat response, and combined mission execution with forces operating in different environments and command structures.

European Participation

The mission included joint work with air forces from Finland, Lithuania, and Sweden on scenarios aimed at countering anti-access and area-denial capabilities. These engagements were designed to enhance readiness through weapons simulations, targeting processes, and the ‘find, fix, track, and target’ sequence, commonly referred to as F2T2.

Aircrews also conducted aerial refueling operations to confirm the ability to fly extended missions from unfamiliar or austere locations, a key requirement for global strike operations.

Additional training efforts highlighted the integration of U.S. bombers with NATO capabilities. The B-52s operated alongside a NATO-run E-3 Airborne Early Warning and Control System aircraft to enhance coordination during complex tactical tasks, underscoring the importance of real-time information sharing and situational awareness.

“From enhancing our beyond-line-of-sight find, fix, track, and targeting process to countering anti-access, area-denial environments, we are strengthening partnerships in Africa and the Middle East, and maintaining freedom of maneuver with Allied integration in USEUCOM,” said Maj. Adam Carr, 96th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron director of operations.

Regional Engagements in the Middle East and Africa

In the U.S. Central Command region, the mission included participation in Exercise Ferocious Falcon 6, hosted by Qatar. The exercise focused on improving lethality, coordination, and combat efficiency among U.S. and Allied forces through joint operations and scenario-based activities.

The B-52s also took part in the Dubai Airshow with a flyover intended to demonstrate U.S. airpower to international audiences and reaffirm Washington’s security commitments in the region.

The deployment further expanded cooperation in Africa through a ground-to-air training effort involving U.S. Air Force Joint Terminal Attack Controllers, who travelled from Vicenza in Italy to Atar in Mauritania.

Working with the Mauritanian Air Force, they focused on transferring time-sensitive information to bomber crews, enhancing interoperability, and reinforcing regional partnerships. The training underlined the importance of joint ground coordination to support air missions in remote or challenging operating environments.

Bomber Task Force Europe missions are recurring deployments intended to maintain persistent global airpower projection and ensure that U.S. strategic forces remain ready for rapid deployment in support of national and Allied objectives.

The latest mission underscored the ability of the B-52 fleet to conduct extended operations across continents while integrating seamlessly with partner nations. “Such a robust deployment sustains our lethality and reinforces our ability to project global combat power at a time and place of our choosing, while deterring our potential adversaries,” said Dougherty. “There is no replacement for hard power, and the B-52 personifies American strength.”
