The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) has finalized the acquisition of the Palantir Maven Smart System NATO (MSS NATO) from American company Palantir Technologies Inc. The next-generation AI-enabled platform will be integrated into NATO’s Allied Command Operations (ACO).
This marks a significant leap in the Alliance’s efforts to modernize its warfighting infrastructure by providing advanced AI capabilities to the Alliance and equipping NATO forces with modern tools.
NCIA General Manager Ludwig Decamps said, “NCIA is pleased to team up with Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and Palantir to deliver MSS NATO to the Warfighter, providing customized state-of-the-art AI capabilities to the Alliance, and empowering our forces with the tools required on the modern battlefield to operate effectively and decisively.”
The advanced Maven Smart System NATO platform empowers commanders and military personnel with advanced, secure artificial intelligence capabilities to enhance core operational functions.
Leveraging a unified, data-driven framework, the system supports a range of AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), generative AI, and machine learning, to improve intelligence integration, targeting processes, situational awareness, operational planning, and decision-making speed.
The system enables secure and ethical application of AI technologies in support of intelligence fusion, targeting, operational planning, and real-time battlefield awareness. With the ability to process vast volumes of structured and unstructured data from various sources, MSS NATO empowers commanders and decision-makers to operate with greater speed, precision, and situational understanding.

Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) Chief of Staff General Markus Laubenthal said, “ACO is at the forefront of adopting technologies that make NATO more agile, adaptable, and responsive to emerging threats. Innovation is core to our Warfighting ability. Maven Smart System NATO enables the Alliance to leverage complex data, accelerate decision-making, and by doing so, adds a true operational value.”
The acquisition of MSS NATO stands as one of the fastest in NATO’s history, completing the process in just six months from the initial requirement phase to the system’s procurement. The ACO is expected to begin using the new system next month.
This strategic collaboration underscores the deepening relationship between NATO and leading technology providers from both North America and Europe. It reflects a shared commitment to building a resilient, technologically advanced defense posture capable of responding to evolving threats in the digital age.
Senior Counselor at Palantir Technologies, Shon Manasco said, “We’re proud to support NATO’s drive to bolster deterrence by deploying an AI-enabled warfighting platform at SHAPE. This partnership underlines the Alliance’s determination to lead fearlessly with technological innovation.”
The adoption of MSS NATO at SHAPE is also intended to accelerate the rollout of other cutting-edge technologies across the Alliance. This includes integrating emerging AI models, as well as modeling and simulation tools, reinforcing the strong transatlantic collaboration between the North American and European technology base.
