Japan, China, S. Korea look to meet March 11 to pave way for summit.

Japan, China and South Korea are making final arrangements to hold talks among their senior officials on March 11 at the earliest in Seoul to pave the way for a trilateral summit, diplomatic sources said Tuesday.

The three nations have not held a summit since 2012. Uncertainty remains over whether they could break a deadlock as Beijing and Seoul have criticized Tokyo for differing views on wartime history.

The meeting, also preceding their foreign ministers’ talks later this month, will be attended by Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Shinsuke Sugiyama, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin and South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Lee Kyung Soo, the sources said.
