China, Iran boost defense ties to promote regional peace

The trip aims to ‘promote the preservation of international and regional peace and stability,’ Chinese Admiral says

TEHRAN, (Iran) – A high-ranking Chinese military delegation headed by the country’s deputy chief of joint staff of army visited Tehran on Wednesday.

Admiral Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of staff of the People’s Liberation Army, told Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan that China paid great attention to developing relations with Iran, China’s Defence Ministry said.

“The aim of this delegation’s visit is to further promote friendship, deepen cooperation and exchange views with Iran on bilateral military ties and issues of mutual concern,” Sun said, according to the statement.

The trip will also “promote the preservation of international and regional peace and stability”, he added.

The Chinese delegation was greeted by Iran’s Armed Forces Joint Affairs chief Mohammad Baqeri, Asriran reported.

Baqeri said, “Iran and China enjoy similar positions and we are going to strengthen our military ties as we have our economic ties.”

“We hold the same position regarding America’s unilateralism and are looking forward to forming an Asian structure and promoting the Shanghai agreement.”
