{"id":9968,"date":"2022-06-10T02:21:10","date_gmt":"2022-06-10T00:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/?p=9968"},"modified":"2022-06-10T02:21:11","modified_gmt":"2022-06-10T00:21:11","slug":"nato-allies-conduct-joint-naval-exercises-with-japan-in-mediterranean-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/nato-allies-conduct-joint-naval-exercises-with-japan-in-mediterranean-sea\/","title":{"rendered":"NATO allies conduct joint naval exercises with Japan in Mediterranean Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) and J<strong>apan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF)<\/strong><\/strong> s<strong>hips conducted joint naval exercises in the Mediterranean Sea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Italian Navy&#8217;s flagship ITS Margottini and Turkish Navy&#8217;s TCG Salihreis conduct joint training drills with two Japanese ships, JS Kashima and JS Shimakaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The allies conducted the 66th edition of the Overseas Training Cruise during their transit in the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the NATO press release, &#8220;The newly commissioned Japanese officers had the opportunity to interact with the NATO units and conduct training activities, including a maneuvering exercise.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A personnel exchange allowed NATO crew members to embark the Japanese ships and vice versa. The statement added that &#8220;the exchange gave all participants insight into how NATO and Japan operate at sea and fostered understanding and interoperability between the units.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commander of the Training Squadron of Japan Rear Admiral Shukaku Komuta welcomed the Italian Navy&#8217;s Rear Admiral Mauro Panebianco aboard the JMSDF ship Kashima. (Image Credit: Wikimedia Commons)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Italian Navy Rear Admiral Mauro Panebianco highlighted that &#8220;The interaction of today is a great opportunity to strengthen our cooperation and partnership.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We share many of the core values of your Navy \u2013 that is why our cooperation is mutually beneficial.
