South Korea\u2019s Foreign Ministry says the country will resume negotiations with China this week on curbing North Korea\u2019s nuclear weapons program.<\/p>\n
Special delegates from South Korea and China will meet in Beijing on Wednesday, to discuss restarting multiple-party talks on efforts to denuclearize Pyongyang, South Korea\u2019s Foreign\u00a0Ministry said.<\/p>\n
South Korea’s chief delegate, Hwang Joon-kook, will speak with his Chinese counterpart\u00a0Wu Dawei,\u00a0and pick up where six-party talks left off more than six years ago, said ministry spokesman Noh Kwang-il.<\/p>\n
They will discuss ways to prevent further North Korean nuclear tests and the possibility of \u201creactivating denuclearization talks,\u201d Noh added.<\/p>\n
The last meaningful talks were held between the two Koreas, China, Russia, Japan and the United States in December 2008.<\/p>\n
North Korea left the talks the following year, as it conducted a nuclear missile test launch despite warnings from the other nations in the talks.<\/p>\n
Pyongyang tested nuclear devices in 2006 and 2009. It has been the subject of UN sanctions over its nuclear and missile tests.<\/p>\n
However, Pyongyang has expressed willingness to resume the talks.<\/p>\n
The US, Japan\u00a0and South Korea say the country must first shut down its nuclear program.<\/p>\n
