{"id":8807,"date":"2022-03-07T10:10:57","date_gmt":"2022-03-07T08:10:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/?p=8807"},"modified":"2023-07-11T10:31:15","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T07:31:15","slug":"us-air-force-b-21-nuclear-capable-stealth-bomber-enters-ground-testing-phase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/us-air-force-b-21-nuclear-capable-stealth-bomber-enters-ground-testing-phase\/","title":{"rendered":"US Air Force B-21 nuclear-capable stealth bomber enters ground testing phase"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Northrop Grumman\u2019s B-21 Raider penetrating strike stealth bomber has entered the ground testing phase and is set to take its first flight this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Northrop Grumman\u2019s Aeronautics Systems President Tom Jones said \u201cWith the first [B-21] test aircraft in formal ground test, software and hardware are coming together. The phase we\u2019re in now will further prove out our design on our way to first flight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Air Force nuclear-capable stealth bomber is now undergoing ground tests, as six of the next-generation aircraft are in various stages of production by Northrop Grumman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, Darlene Costello said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are on track for first flight [and] we\u2019re holding to our schedule,\u201d Costello said in a statement during the Air Force Association\u2019s Air Warfare Symposium in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall also said that so far, he is satisfied with the B-21 program\u2019s progress. \u201cAt least at this stage of the game, the B-21\u2032s moving forward really well,\u201d Kendall said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Northrop Grumman release, the U.S. Air Force plans\u00a0include at least 100 B-21 Raider bombers into its arsenal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/US-B-21-Bomber-Rendering.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/US-B-21-Bomber-Rendering.jpg?resize=839%2C570&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8808\" width=\"839\" height=\"570\"\/><\/a><figcaption><em><sup>Artist rendering of Northrop Grumman&#8217;s B-21 Stealth Bomber. (Image Credit: U.S. Air Force\/Northrop Grumman)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After the initial tests of engine runs and low- and high-speed taxiing are completed formal flight tests of B-21 bombers will be conducted at Edwards Air Force Base in California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Northrop Grumman, the B-21 Raider bomber is a high-tech stealth bomber that will replace the U.S. Air Force\u2019s aging B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit bomber fleet. The B-21 is a long-range, highly survivable bomber, capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The B-21 Raider bomber development program is led by the U.S. Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office. In 2015, defense firm Northrop Grumman was awarded the B-21 Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract by the U.S. Air Force. The company is working in collaboration with Pratt &amp; Whitney, GKN Aerospace, Janicki Industries, BAE Systems, Collins Aerospace, and Spirit Aerosystems on the B-21 program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, the Air Force conducted a comprehensive weapon systems test, design maturity, stability, risk evaluation.
