to open probe into alleged war crimes in Palestine by Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>International Criminal Court says it has jurisdiction in Palestinian territories<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The International Criminal Court (ICC) has announced that it has jurisdiction over crimes committed in the Palestinian territories, clearing the way to investigate alleged atrocities despite Israeli objections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Court\u2019s territorial jurisdiction in the Situation in <a href=\"https:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/tag\/palestine\/\"><span style=\"color: #a80000;\">Palestine<\/span><\/a> \u2026 extends to the territories occupied by Israel since 1967, namely Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem,\u201d the ICC judges said.<\/p>\n<p>ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said her office was studying the decision and would decide what to do next \u201cguided strictly by its independent and impartial mandate\u201d to prosecute grave war crimes and atrocities when countries are unable or unwilling to do so themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Bensouda had found in December 2019 that \u201c<span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2019\/12\/1054121\" target=\"_blank\">war crimes have been or are being committed in the West Bank<\/a><\/span>, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.\u201d She named both the Israeli Defense Forces and armed Palestinian groups such as Hamas as possible perpetrators.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was welcomed by the Palestinians and denounced by Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Hussein al-Sheikh, the Palestinian Authority\u2019s civil affairs minister, said on Twitter that the ICC ruling was \u201ca victory for rights, justice, freedom and moral values in the world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/tag\/israel\/\">Israel<\/a><\/span>&#8216;s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the decision. \u201cToday the ICC proved once again that it is a political body and not a judicial institution,\u201d he said, adding that Israel was not a member
