The flight lifted off from Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a dream come true for me and everyone at SpaceX,\u201d said Elon Musk, chief engineer at SpaceX. \u201cIt is the culmination of an incredible amount of work by the SpaceX team, by NASA and by a number of other partners in the process of making this happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Falcon 9 lifts off from historic Launch Complex 39A and sends Crew Dragon to orbit on its first flight with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NASA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NASA<\/a> astronauts to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Space_Station?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@space_station<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UOoaKiQaFk\">pic.twitter.com\/UOoaKiQaFk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SpaceX (@SpaceX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpaceX\/status\/1266906697454555137?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 31, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The spaceflight is the first in nearly nine years to have launched from US soil and into orbit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday a new era in human spaceflight begins as we once again launched American astronauts on American rockets from American soil on their way to the International Space Station, our national lab orbiting Earth,\u201d said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine.<\/p>\n<p>He termed the historic flight an important step\u201cto expand human exploration to the Moon and Mars\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The mission, called NASA\u2019s SpaceX Demo-2, is an end-to-end test flight to validate the SpaceX crew transportation system, including launch, in-orbit, docking and landing operations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Liftoff!
