This is the largest <a href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/tag\/defense\/\"><span style=\"color: #a80000;\">defense<\/span><\/a> contract that <a href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/tag\/lockheed-martin\/\"><span style=\"color: #a80000;\">Lockheed Martin<\/span><\/a> has signed with the country.<\/p>\n<p>The pact, that was recently inked between the Indian government and Sikorsky, was\u00a0<span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dsca.mil\/major-arms-sales\/india-mh-60r-multi-mission-helicopters\">initially approved<\/a><\/span>\u00a0by the State Department in April 2019.<\/p>\n<p>In the official notice, the United States Navy is ordering three MH-60Rs, while the rest 21 are ordered by India.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe US Navy has allowed us to leverage three aircraft from their inventory of brand new aircraft .. in order to provide them to the Indian Navy so they can begin training on a more accelerated basis than might normally be possible,\u201d\u00a0according to Tom Kane, director of Sikorsky naval <span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/tag\/helicopter\/\">helicopter<\/a><\/span> programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndia\u2019s selection of the MH-60R \u2018Romeo\u2019 multi-mission helicopter provides the Indian Navy with the most advanced anti-surface\/anti-submarine warfare helicopter in operation today,\u201d said Tom Kane in a May 14 release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lockheedmartin.com\/en-us\/products\/sikorsky-mh-60-seahawk-helicopters.html\" target=\"_blank\">MH-60R<\/a><\/span> offers the lowest risk and best value option because the aircraft is already in full production and globally supportable. The MH-60R provides a vital capability in the Indo-Pacific region and equips the Indian Navy with a tremendous capability that is ready for operations immediately upon delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MH-60R, known as \u201cthe world\u2019s most advanced maritime helicopter\u201d, will offer India maritime anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare capabilities with secondary missions including cargo and utility, search-and-rescue, and communications relay.<\/p>\n<p>The deal has been accelerated amid the U.S.-Cina rising tensions in the region.\u00a0The new helicopters will &#8220;give the Indian military a powerful tool to monitor the seas for the increasing number of Chinese surface ships and submarines&#8221; according to\u00a0a <span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2020\/05\/india-inks-900m-deal-for-sub-hunting-helos-as-tensions-with-china-spike\/\" target=\"_blank\">Breaking Defense<\/a><\/span> report.<\/p>\n<p>The first aircraft should be delivered to India in June 2021, which \u201cis more accelerated than we would normally be able to achieve because we have been anticipating this contract for quite some time,\u201d Kane said.
