{"id":6422,"date":"2020-05-13T16:36:43","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T16:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=6422"},"modified":"2020-05-13T16:36:43","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T16:36:43","slug":"us-space-force-to-launch-x-37b-space-plane-on-a-new-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/us-space-force-to-launch-x-37b-space-plane-on-a-new-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"US Space Force to launch X-37B space plane on a new mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>U.S. Space Force reveals sixth mission for the mysterious X-37B space plane<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span class=\"link\" style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/tag\/us-space-force\/\" data-s-object-id=\"article-body;shortcodeLink\">U.S. Space Force<\/a><\/span>\u00a0announced the launch of the sixth mission of the X-37B space plane\u00a0on May 16 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV-6), developed by\u00a0Boeing\u00a0for the U.S. Air Force, enables the U.S. to efficiently and effectively develop space capabilities in order to maintain superiority in the space domain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP1\">\u201cThis sixth mission is a big step for the X-37B program,\u201d said Randy Walden, Director and Program Executive Officer for the Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP1\">This will be the first X-37B mission to use a service module to host experiments.\u00a0&#8220;The incorporation of a service module on this mission enables us to continue to expand the capabilities of the spacecraft and host more experiments than any of the previous missions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP1\">\u201cThis launch is a prime example of integrated operations between the Air Force, Space Force, and government-industry partnerships,\u201d Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP1\">\u201cThe X-37B continues to break barriers in advancing reusable space vehicle technologies and is a significant investment in advancing future space capabilities\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP1\">X-37B maker Boeing tweeted a short\u00a0video\u00a0of the unmanned spacecraft that resembles a mini space shuttle.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Just announced by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SecAFOfficial?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SecAFOfficial<\/a>: The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/X37B?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#X37B<\/a> spaceplane is ready for launch on Atlas V. This launch also demonstrates the department\u2019s collaboration that pushes the boundaries for reusable space systems\u201d said Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP1\">The two-fold objectives of the X-37B OTV are: reusable spacecraft technologies for America\u2019s future in space and operating experiments which can be returned to, and examined, on Earth.<\/p>\n<p><em>The National Interest\u00a0<\/em><span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalinterest.org\/blog\/the-buzz\/why-russia-china-should-fear-the-x-37b-space-plane-18099\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a><\/span>\u00a0earlier that the space plane could move remarkably fast, allowing it to rapidly shift orbit \u2014\u00a0a space maneuver\u00a0that could allow it to \u201cdisappear\u201d\u00a0from imaging tech and bewilder adversaries.
