{"id":6069,"date":"2019-07-18T12:13:10","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T12:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=6069"},"modified":"2022-08-19T17:46:58","modified_gmt":"2022-08-19T15:46:58","slug":"us-removes-turkey-from-f-35-fighter-program-after-s-400-deliveries-from-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/us-removes-turkey-from-f-35-fighter-program-after-s-400-deliveries-from-russia\/","title":{"rendered":"US removes Turkey from F-35 fighter program after S-400 deliveries from Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>US removes Turkey from F-35 program after S-400 debacle, Turkey rebukes US decision <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The United States announced it is removing Turkey from the F-35 stealth fighter program, following Ankara&#8217;s purchase of Russian S-400 air defense missile system despite warnings from Western allies.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon later confirmed that a process is already underway to move the production of Turkey-made F-35 parts \u2013 worth at least $9 billion to Turkish manufacturers \u2013 to suppliers in the United States and other countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, Turkey\u2019s decision to purchase Russian S-400 air defense systems renders its continued involvement with the F-35 impossible,\u201d White House spokesperson Stephanie Grisham said in a Wednesday, July 17&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/statement-press-secretary-64\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The United States is &#8220;unwinding&#8221; Turkey from the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program as a result of the country buying the Russian S-400 air defense missile system. Read more here: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KuJoAKzaCp\">https:\/\/t.co\/KuJoAKzaCp<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xKjjVS73Uk\">pic.twitter.com\/xKjjVS73Uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 U.S. Dept of Defense (@DeptofDefense) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeptofDefense\/status\/1151691991647948800?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 18, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Cutting Turkey from F-35 program to damage ties: Turkey<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ankara called on Washington to correct its decision, which it said will irreparably damage relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The unilateral move by the U.S. &#8220;neither complies with the spirit of alliance nor is it based on legitimate grounds,&#8221; Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is unfair to remove&nbsp;Turkey, one of the main partners in the F-35 program,\u201d it said, adding claims that the S-400 system will jeopardize sensitive information about F-35 technologies are not valid.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Being irresponsive to our proposal to form a working group which will also include NATO on this basis is a clear indication that the U.S. is biased and lacks the will to resolve the matter in good faith,&#8221; the ministry said.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"title\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Russia &#8216;ready&#8217; to deliver Su-35s fighter jets to Turkey<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Meanwhile, Russia said&nbsp;it&nbsp;is ready to supply Su-35 fighter jets to Turkey following Ankara&#8217;s expulsion fron F-35 program, <span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/defense\/1069215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rostec chief Sergei Chemezov stated<\/a><\/span> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If our Turkish colleagues express an interest, we are ready to discuss the deliveries of Su-35,&#8221; the Rostec press service quotes Chemezov as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The Su-35 is a fourth-generation supersonic fighter jet and is a derivative of the Su-27 plane. The single-seat, twin-engine, super-maneuverable aircraft was actively used in Moscow&#8217;s military campaign in Syria.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Turkey&#8217;s role much broader than F-35: NATO chief <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Praising Turkey\u2019s role in the alliance hours after the U.S. decision, NATO\u2019s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he was concerned about the consequences of the Turkish decision. &#8220;Turkey&#8217;s contribution to NATO runs much deeper and much broader than the F-35.
