{"id":5727,"date":"2018-07-10T15:24:23","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T15:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=5727"},"modified":"2018-07-19T15:40:14","modified_gmt":"2018-07-19T15:40:14","slug":"nato-tests-upgraded-sea-sparrow-missile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/nato-tests-upgraded-sea-sparrow-missile\/","title":{"rendered":"NATO tests upgraded Sea Sparrow missile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NATO Seasparrow Project Team flight tests ESSM Block 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NATO Seasparrow Project Office successfully achieved an intercept test of the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a class=\"selected-link\" style=\"color: #a80000;\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/naval\/2018\/02\/06\/finland-seeks-730-million-in-naval-weapons-from-us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Evolved Seasparrow Missile<\/a><\/span>\u00a0Block 2 when the missile successfully <span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a class=\"tpstyle\" style=\"color: #a80000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.navy.mil\/submit\/display.asp?story_id=106243\" target=\"_blank\">intercepted a BQM-74E<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #a80000;\"><a class=\"tpstyle\" style=\"color: #a80000;\" title=\"Drones\" href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/topic\/drones\/\">drone<\/a><\/span>\u00a0target on July 5.<\/p>\n<p>The test is the first to use Raytheon&#8217;s new Block 2 active guidance seeker-head, according to Navy officials.<\/p>\n<p>The ESSM Block 2 solution can use both semi-active and active guidance systems in order to address current and anticipated future threats.<\/p>\n<p>Further live fire tests are also planned to bring the ESSM Block 2 missile into production.<\/p>\n<p>Nato Seasparrow Project project manager captain Bruce Schuette said: \u201cThis flight test is critical to demonstrating the technology for the ESSM Block 2.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI am very proud of the entire Nato Seasparrow Project Team, from our industry partners to our field activities and test facilities, for all the extensive work that went into making this event a success.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A total of 11 other nations including US are participating in the Nato Seasparrow Project.
