{"id":5572,"date":"2018-03-26T16:19:23","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T16:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=5572"},"modified":"2018-03-26T16:21:39","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T16:21:39","slug":"over-100-russian-diplomats-expelled-from-18-countries-over-ex-spys-poisoning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/over-100-russian-diplomats-expelled-from-18-countries-over-ex-spys-poisoning\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 100 Russian diplomats expelled from 18 countries over ex-spy\u2019s poisoning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>U.S., EU States expel dozens of Russian diplomats over poisoning, Moscow vows retaliation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nearly a hundred Russian diplomats in western countries alleged to be spies are being told to return to Moscow in at least 18 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The United States, Canada, several EU countries and Ukraine announced diplomatic measures against Russia on Monday, 26 March, in response to the poisoning of a former Russian double agent with military-grade nerve agent in the English town of Salisbury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s extraordinary international response by our allies stands in history as the largest collective expulsion of Russian intelligence officers ever and will help defend our shared security,\u201d the UK foreign secretary, Boris Johnson tweeted. \u201cRussia cannot break international rules with impunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The US has ordered the expulsion of 60 Russian officials who Washington says are spies, including a dozen based at the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>EU members Germany, France and Poland are each to expel four Russian diplomats with intelligence agency backgrounds. Lithuania and the Czech Republic said they would expel three with Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands expelling two each. Ukraine, which is not an EU member, is to expel 13 Russian diplomats, and Canada four.<\/p>\n<p>European Council president Donald Tusk confirmed that 14 EU states were expelling Russian diplomats in the wake of the nerve agent attack.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today 14 EU Member States decided to expel Russian diplomats as direct follow-up to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/EUCO?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#EUCO<\/a> discussion last week on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SalisburyAttack?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SalisburyAttack<\/a>.
