{"id":5527,"date":"2018-01-24T06:33:02","date_gmt":"2018-01-24T06:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=5527"},"modified":"2018-02-07T12:54:58","modified_gmt":"2018-02-07T12:54:58","slug":"australian-fighter-jets-return-home-after-completing-middle-east-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/australian-fighter-jets-return-home-after-completing-middle-east-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian fighter jets return home after completing Middle East mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Australia&#8217;s air strike operations against Islamic State have wrapped up as fighter jets have returned home<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Six Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F\/A-18F Super Hornet multirole fighters have returned to Australia, marking the end of country&#8217;s three-and-a-half airstrike operations against Islamic State targets in Iraq and eastern Syria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The aircraft, which were deployed as part of the Australian Air Task Group (ATG) under Operation \u2018Okra\u2019, arrived at RAAF Base Amberley on 24 January, according to a statement by Minister of Defence Marise Payne.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since their first mission under &#8216;Okra&#8217; in October 2014, the RAAF&#8217;s fighter aircraft have conducted continuous operations in the Middle East, flying more than 2,700 sorties over 21,700 flying hours, according to the Australian Department of Defence (DoD) in Canberra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and other dignitaries welcomed the group home and pay tribute to their courage and dedication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Thank you for your service.
