British Army orders Bomb-neutralizing robot Harris T7<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0United Kingdom has announced<\/a><\/span> a 73 million U.S. dollar-contract for an army of bomb disposal robots.<\/p>\n

The United Kingdom\u2019s Ministry of Defence (MoD)\u00a0has awarded Harris Corporation a contract worth up to \u00a355 million ($70 million) to provide\u00a0T7\u2122 robotic <\/a>systems<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to support U.K. explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) missions around the world.<\/p>\n

Bitain’s Defense Secretary Michael Fallon told the Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) Exhibition in London that the deal had been inked for 56 robots.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Fallon outlined how the Harris T7 robots use \u2018advanced haptic feedback\u2019 to allow operators to \u2018feel\u2019 their way through the intricate process of disarming from a safe distance, protecting UK personnel from threats such as roadside bombs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith our rising defence budget, we are investing in the latest equipment for our Armed Forces to tackle the growing threats we face. These bomb disposal robots will be companions to our troops on the battlefield,\u201d said Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The British Army is the first customer for Harris Corporation\u2019s T7 robot, according to the British Ministry of Defence.<\/p>\n

Ed Zoiss, president of Harris\u2019 Electronic Systems division, said the sale represents the \u201cfirst of several more international contract awards we\u2019re anticipating for the T7.\u201d<\/p>\n

All 56 robots are due to be delivered and in service by December 2020, replacing the current Northrop Grumman Wheelbarrow Mk8B device as part of the MoD\u2019s Project Starter.<\/p>\n
