{"id":4980,"date":"2017-04-07T11:04:52","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T11:04:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=4980"},"modified":"2017-04-07T11:04:52","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T11:04:52","slug":"u-s-launches-missile-strike-on-syria-after-gas-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/u-s-launches-missile-strike-on-syria-after-gas-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. launches missile strike on Syria after gas attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>US warships launch 59 cruise missile strike against Assad airfield following chemical attack<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The U.S. launched cruise missiles against Syria Friday, a day after President Trump said a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" title=\"Syria chemical attack kills more than 70\" href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/syria-chemical-attack-kills-more-than-70\/\" target=\"_blank\">chemical weapons attack<\/a><\/span>\u00a0that killed at least 80 and \u201ccrossed many, many\u201d lines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was the first direct American assault on the Syrian government since that country\u2019s civil war began six years ago and Donald Trump\u2019s most dramatic military order since becoming president.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The U.S. military launched 59 cruise missiles at a Syrian military airfield controlled by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The strikes hit the government-controlled Shayrat air base in central Syria, where U.S. officials say the Syrian military planes that dropped the chemicals had taken off. A target was identified as an airbase in Homs.<\/p>\n<p>The strike was conducted using Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles, or TLAMs, launched from the destroyers <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/jbanusiewicz\/Desktop\/USS%20Porter\" target=\"_blank\">USS Porter<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a id=\"anch_201\" style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.public.navy.mil\/surflant\/ddg71\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">USS Ross<\/a><\/span> in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, Davis said in his statement.
