{"id":4949,"date":"2017-03-29T14:37:27","date_gmt":"2017-03-29T14:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=4949"},"modified":"2017-03-29T14:40:07","modified_gmt":"2017-03-29T14:40:07","slug":"uk-france-sign-deal-to-develop-new-cruise-anti-ship-missiles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/uk-france-sign-deal-to-develop-new-cruise-anti-ship-missiles\/","title":{"rendered":"UK, France sign deal to develop new cruise, anti-ship missiles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UK and France launch next generation cruise and anti-ship missiles project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Britain and France signed an agreement to launch a $108 million (\u20ac100 million), three-year study by European missile maker MBDA for a future cruise missile and anti-ship weapon, according to the British defense ministry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">British Defense Minister Harriett Baldwin and French counterpart Laurent Collet-Billon signed the pact under which each country will contribute roughly $62 million for the Future Cruise\/Anti-Ship Weapon program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We are launching a major new phase in our bilateral cooperation, by planning together a generation of missiles, successor to the Harpoon, SCALP and Storm Shadow,&#8221; Collet-Billon explained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Europe&#8217;s leading missile and missile systems manufacturer <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mbda-systems.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MBDA <\/a><\/span>would explore options to replace and improve existing naval and air force weapons systems over the next 10 years, according to a statement by the UK ministry of defense.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next generation of cruise and anti-ship missiles project will begin with a three-year concept development phase. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a class=\"tpstyle\" style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mbda-systems.com\/press-releases\/france-uk-launch-next-generation-strike-missile-project-mbda\/\" target=\"_blank\">According to MBDA<\/a><\/span>, the effort will result in new capabilities allowing each armed force to perform enhanced anti-ship and deep-strike missions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a class=\"tpstyle\" style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-and-france-strengthen-defence-cooperation-with-new-weapon-system-agreement\" target=\"_blank\">the signing<\/a><\/span>, the defense ministers said sharing the costs will benefit both allied countries by strengthening their collective defense.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Our relationship with France is strong and enduring.
