{"id":4929,"date":"2017-03-21T10:57:17","date_gmt":"2017-03-21T10:57:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=4929"},"modified":"2017-03-21T11:17:18","modified_gmt":"2017-03-21T11:17:18","slug":"singapore-navy-launches-fourth-littoral-mission-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/singapore-navy-launches-fourth-littoral-mission-vessel\/","title":{"rendered":"Singapore Navy launches fourth Littoral Mission Vessel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Singapore has launched its fourth Littoral Mission Vessel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd has launched the fourth Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV) \u2018Justice\u2019 designed and built for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), during an official ceremony at Benoi Yard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Senior Minister for State for Defence Dr. Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman officiated the launch of Singapore Navy&#8217;s fourth Littoral Mission Vessel at the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stengg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Singapore Technologies Marine<\/a><\/span> (ST Marine)&#8217;s Benoi shipyard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Maliki said the LMVs aptly illustrate how the RSN is &#8220;looking ahead to the next 50 years to make sure it stays relevant and ready for the challenges ahead.&#8221; He added, &#8220;the RSN has designed the LMV to conduct a wider range of operations in a more complex environment. It will give the RSN greater mission flexibility and sustainability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ship, which will be the future RSS <i>Justice<\/i> with pennant number 18, was launched on 18 March. The 80 m platform is part of a contract for eight LMVs signed between ST Marine and the Singapore Ministry of Defence in 2013.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cToday marks yet another significant milestone for the team, the launch of the fourth Littoral Mission Vessel \u2013 Justice. We all look forward to the commissioning of the first LMV Independence in May this year,\u201d said Ng Sing Chan, President for ST Marine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The LMVs are faster, versatile, and equipped with sharper capabilities to further strengthen the RSN&#8217;s effectiveness in seaward defence,\u00a0according to a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mindef.gov.sg\/imindef\/press_room\/details.html?name=18mar17_nr1&amp;date=2017-03-18#.WNEFZFV97IU\" target=\"_blank\">statement by MINDEF<\/a><\/span>. The LMVs can be configured with mission modules to take on a wide spectrum of operations, enabling the crew to deliver calibrated responses using lethal and non-lethal options to deal with a range of maritime threats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ST Marine was awarded the contract by <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mindef.gov.sg\/\" target=\"_blank\">MINDEF<\/a><\/span> in 2013 to design and build eight LMVs for the RSN. The fleet of the eight LMVs will replace the Fearless 55 Patrol Vessels designed and built by ST Marine in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first two, named, LMV Independence and LMV Sovereignty were delivered in 2016.
