{"id":459,"date":"2015-01-08T06:33:03","date_gmt":"2015-01-08T06:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=459"},"modified":"2015-01-12T15:04:12","modified_gmt":"2015-01-12T15:04:12","slug":"china-to-invest-20-billion-in-venezuela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/china-to-invest-20-billion-in-venezuela\/","title":{"rendered":"China to invest $20 billion in Venezuela"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says China has agreed to more than $20 billion in investments in his country.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Maduro made the announcement on Wednesday during a visit to the Chinese capital, Beijing.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe scooped up more than $20 billion in investment,\u201d<\/em> Maduro said following a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.<\/p>\n<p>Xi also said that Beijing had agreed to \u201cstrengthened cooperation\u201d between the two sides.<\/p>\n<p>According to Venezuela\u2019s AVN news agency, the investment deal includes areas such as technology, housing, and urban planning.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting between Maduro and Xi was the third of its kind; the two leaders had last met in July 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Venezuela, a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), announced that it had entered recession following a huge drop in global oil prices.<\/p>\n<p>The price of Venezuelan crude, which provides 96 percent of the country\u2019s hard currency income, has almost halved to USD 46 per barrel since mid-2014. The country\u2019s annual inflation rate also reached 63.8 percent, which is among the world\u2019s highest rates.<\/p>\n<p>China is Venezuela\u2019s largest investor.
