It is also set to launch Beijing far ahead of its global rivals in the drive to acquire a highly coveted asset in the age of cyber-espionage: hack-proof communications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their satellite\u2019s named \u201cMicius,\u201d after a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mozi\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s1\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">fifth-century BC Chinese scientist<\/span><\/span><\/a>, and it left earth early on August 16 from <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cgwic.com\/LaunchServices\/LaunchSite\/JSLC.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s1\">Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre<\/span><\/a> <\/span>in the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/gobidesert.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s1\">Gobi Desert<\/span><\/a><\/span>. It was developed by China and Austria. It\u2019s the first of an intended global system of <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2016\/08\/16\/china-quantum-satellite\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s1\">20 such satellites<\/span><\/a><\/span> in China\u2019s\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.popsci.com\/chinas-quantum-satellite-could-change-cryptography-forever\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s1\">QUESS<\/span><\/a><\/span> (\u201cQuantum Experiments at Space Scale\u201d) program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The satellite works by the principles of quantum cryptography, similar to existing fiber-based quantum key distribution networks in Europe, China, and the US.
