{"id":4186,"date":"2016-06-27T23:32:37","date_gmt":"2016-06-27T23:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=4186"},"modified":"2016-06-27T23:34:03","modified_gmt":"2016-06-27T23:34:03","slug":"turkey-restores-formal-relations-with-russia-and-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/turkey-restores-formal-relations-with-russia-and-israel\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey restores formal relations with Russia and Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Turkey restores relations with Russia and Israel as closer ties could mean a boost to Turkish tourism, trade and greater security cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turkey proclaimed two landmark moves on Monday by restoring ties with Russia and Israel after rough relations with the two leading world powers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turkish President expressed regret to Russia over the downing of a warplane and announced the\u00a0restoration of diplomatic ties with Israel after a six-year rift, seeking to mend strained alliances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Strengthened relations \u2014 an apology letter to the Russian president calling to renew ties and an agreement with Israel \u00a0\u2014 could offer a boost to Turkey&#8217;s tourism and trade sectors,\u00a0Mediterranean gas prospects for Israel and greater security cooperation in the region at a critical time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTurkey needs more allies, or at least no more enemies, against the backdrop of a regional situation that is most likely to continue to generate insecurity and instability in the foreseeable future,\u201d <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/turkey-russia-israel-relations_us_57716029e4b017b379f6b5cd\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a><\/span> Sinan Ulgen, director of the Istanbul-based think tank EDAM and visiting scholar at Carnegie Europe in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turkey seeks closer ties with both countries because of economic pressures, believes\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/turkey-russia-israel-relations_us_57716029e4b017b379f6b5cd\" target=\"_blank\">Ulgen.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Turkey&#8217;s tourism and exports suffered greatly after severing ties with Russia which explains commercial aspirations. \u00a0With Israel, the aim is to strengthen regional status as well as leverage the offshore gas resources.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Turkey and Russia mend ties, Turkish Foreign Minister to visit Moscow<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan offered condolences to Russia\u00a0and the family of a downed Russian fighter pilot killed by Turkey in a letter Russian President\u00a0Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement, the Kremlin said Putin had received a letter from Erdogan &#8220;in which the Turkish leader expressed his desire to resolve the situation connected to the downing of a Russian military aircraft.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Erdogan also called on Putin to restore \u201ctraditional friendly relations,\u201d\u00a0expressed readiness to restore relations with Moscow.\u00a0\u201cWe are pleased to announce that Turkey and Russia have agreed to take necessary steps without delay to improve bilateral relations,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The incident involving the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" title=\"Turkey shoots down Russian jet on Syria border after airspace breach\" href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/turkey-shoots-down-russian-jet-on-syria-border-after-airspace-breach\/\" target=\"_blank\">downing of the Russian Su-24 bomber<\/a><\/span> led severed ties between the two countries, with Turkey recalling its Russian ambassador and\u00a0Russia describing it as a \u201cstab in the back.\u201d It\u00a0was the worst point in Turkish-Russian relations in recent history.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turkish President also informed that a criminal investigation has been launched against the person suspected of killing the Russian pilot, the Kremlin said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I believe we will normalise our relations with Russia rapidly by ending the existing situation which is not in the interest of both sides,&#8221; Erdogan said later on Monday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the deal would have &#8220;immense implications&#8221; for the Israeli economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Israel will pay $20 million in compensation to the families of the Mavi Marmara victims under the deal, which is due to be signed Tuesday. \u201cThe relatives of our citizens who lost their lives in the Mavi Marmara incident will be paid compensation, which will amount to $20 million,\u201d Yildirim said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The rapprochement agreement between Israel and Turkey will strengthen Israel&#8217;s position in the region, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
