Pittella said:\u00a0\u201cIt is sad but it is not the funeral of the European Union.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">EU fears chain reaction in other European nations<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shocked European leaders vowed to remain united despite Britain&#8217;s departure as fears grew that a \u201cchain reaction\u201d of further referendums could tear the bloc apart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Scottish leader Nicola Sturgeon says a new <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-36621030\" target=\"_blank\">Scottish referendum on independence is &#8220;highly likely&#8221;<\/a><\/span> because of Britain&#8217;s vote to leave the European Union. She said Friday legislation will be prepared for a possible new vote. They elicited stark polarisation and disturbing nationalism. This shows that EU cooperation must be developed and improved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Carl Bildt, the former\u00a0Swedish prime minister,\u00a0called the result &#8220;beyond comprehension&#8221; and\u00a0predicted long-term turmoil as a result. Annie L\u00f6\u00f6v, the leader of Sweden&#8217;s Centre Party, called the vote &#8220;a day of mourning. A nightmare&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Austria calls it a &#8220;political earthquake&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Austrian politicians have reacted to the news of Britain\u2019s exit from the European Union with shock, describing the result as \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.at\/20160624\/austria-brexit-result-is-political-earthquake-bad-day-austria-europe-work-permit-visa\" target=\"_blank\">a political earthquake<\/a><\/span>\u201d.\u00a0Chancellor Christian Kern described said: \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.at\/20160624\/austria-brexit-result-is-political-earthquake-bad-day-austria-europe-work-permit-visa\" target=\"_blank\">This is a bad day for Great Britain, a bad day for Europe<\/a><\/span>, and also a bad day for our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Austria\u2019s Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, called Brexit \u201ca political earthquake,\u201d adding that it could set off a domino effect with other countries who will also consider exiting. This is not the outcome the Republic of Ireland wanted. The Irish government, which remained neutral in the Scottish independence referendum, actively encouraged Irish citizens in the UK to vote to remain in the EU.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Denmark is disappointed with results<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Danish Prime Minister Lars L\u00f8kke Rasmussen said that he was <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.dk\/20160624\/danish-pm-brexit-very-sad-for-denmark-and-eu\" target=\"_blank\">disappointed in the United Kingdom\u2019s decision<\/a><\/span> to leave the EU. \u201cWe must respect the choice that a majority of the British people have made. Admitting it was &#8220;not an easy day&#8221;, Renzi said Europe&#8217;s history had demonstrated its ability to overcome challenges. &#8220;The world has great need of the European Union&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>A British Second World War veteran living in Italy has said the UK vote to leave the EU will have disastrous effects on the country and on Britons living in Europe. \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.it\/20160624\/brexit-is-a-disaster-for-great-britain-ww2-veteran-harry-shindler\u00a0\" target=\"_blank\">I think it\u2019s a disaster for Great Britain<\/a><\/span>. It will have a very bad effect on Britons in the EU and it could have been avoided.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Poland says EU needs rethinking after Brexit<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Jaroslaw Kaczynski, former Prime Minister of Poland, says that Britain&#8217;s decision to leave the European Union makes it evident that the bloc needs a new treaty that would regulate its operations better. &#8220;The conclusion is: we need a new European treaty,&#8221; Kaczynski said.<\/p>\n<p>Poland\u2019s foreign minister said the British\u00a0vote \u201c<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/wireStory\/latest-britains-eu-vote-cost-cameron-job-40095292\" target=\"_blank\">is bad news for Europe and bad news for Poland<\/a><\/span>.\u201d\u00a0Britain leaving the EU will\u00a0cast a\u00a0huge cloud of uncertainty over the status of hundreds of thousands of Poles working in the UK.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Russia wants to see a stable, prosperous EU\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian president said: &#8220;Moscow wants the EU to remain a major economic power which is prosperous, stable and predictable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have a pretty heavy burden of uneasy ties with Great Britain. We hope that in the new realities, an understanding of the need for good relations with our country will prevail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333;\">NATO Reaction<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;The UK will remain a strong and committed NATO ally, and will continue to play its leading role in our alliance&#8221; said Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A strong, united and determined NATO remains an essential pillar of stability in a turbulent world, and a key contributor to international peace and security ..
