{"id":3837,"date":"2016-04-11T06:45:56","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T06:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=3837"},"modified":"2022-07-29T02:02:07","modified_gmt":"2022-07-29T00:02:07","slug":"us-armys-new-sniper-rifle-to-be-built-by-heckler-koch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/us-armys-new-sniper-rifle-to-be-built-by-heckler-koch\/","title":{"rendered":"US Army&#8217;s new sniper rifle to be built by Heckler &#038; Koch"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"c1305\" class=\"csc-default\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>US Army&#8217;s new and improved sniper rifles will be built by a German company and will cost around $12,000 per rifle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The U.S. Army has awarded German weapons manufacturer Heckler &amp; Koch a contract to replace the M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heckler-koch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heckler &amp; Koch<\/a><\/span> has confirmed that&nbsp;a modified version of its G28&nbsp;rifle has won the Army&#8217;s Compact Semi-Automatic&nbsp;Sniper System (CSASS) contract,&nbsp;according to the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fbo.gov\/index?s=opportunity&amp;mode=form&amp;id=f8993dc00298d058a49ace70600ebe1d&amp;tab=core&amp;tabmode=list&amp;=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">award notice<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The contract to produce up to 3,643 rifles will be worth up to $44.5 million, or a bit more than&nbsp;$12,000 per rifle. The company will also provide spare parts and support for the Army. The Army will make&nbsp;a minimum purchase of 30 rifles&nbsp;for quality assurance testing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe HK CSASS rifle is a substantial upgrade over the Army\u2019s current sniper rifles, enhancing accuracy and reliability while providing for a handier, more compact arm,\u201d&nbsp;Heckler &amp; Koch USA president&nbsp;Wayne Weber said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">US Army&#8217;s current rifle M110, manufactured by Florida&#8217;s Knight&#8217;s Armament Company, was termed as a little too long and unwieldy for marksman. The competition to replace the rifle, dubbed the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System, aimed to find a &#8220;shorter, lighter, more accurate, more ergonomic and more reliable&#8221; rifle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Compared to the M110, the CSASS will be easier to carry, handle and maneuver in close quarters combat &#8230; These improvements will not sacrifice existing performance, accuracy or reliability,&#8221; according to a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peosoldier.army.mil\/portfolio\/#231\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">military document<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Knight&#8217;s Armament Company&nbsp;released a statement that congratulated the winner of the CSASS contract.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hdnce-e hdnce-item-47758\">\n<div id=\"c1305\" class=\"csc-default\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>&#8220;The Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS) competition was driven by evolving requirements pioneered by KAC products in use by today\u2019s warfighter. Government competition drives industry innovation. Industry\u2019s common goal is getting the best product to the warfighter as quickly as possible,&#8221; the release said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">The <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heckler-koch.com\/en\/products\/military\/precision-rifles\/g28\/g28\/overview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G28<\/a><\/span> is a military version of the civilian semi-automatic competition rifle MR308. Deployed in the established 7.62 x 51 calibre, the \u201cDesignated Marksman Rifle\u201d (DMR) ensures accuracy of 1.5 MOA whilst enabling a full night fighting capability.&nbsp; Providing a maximum effective range and a high first round hit probability up to 600 meters, the G28 will also allow suppressive fire against man size targets accurately up to 800 meters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">With its green\/brown (RAL8000) tone, the G28 offers a camouflage colour scheme that is being accepted around the world.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3839\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/heckler-and-koch-g28-designated-marksman-rifle-germany.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3839\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3839\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/heckler-and-koch-g28-designated-marksman-rifle-germany.jpg?resize=600%2C318\" alt=\"Heckler &amp;
