Saab has secured a contract worth approximately $1 billion to supply two GlobalEye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft to an undisclosed customer in the Middle East, marking another major international success for the Swedish defense company as demand for advanced airborne surveillance capabilities continues to grow.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contract, valued at $1.04 billion, calls for the delivery of both aircraft in 2030. Saab declined to identify the customer, citing national security considerations and the confidential nature of the agreement.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new order strengthens Saab’s position in the increasingly competitive airborne surveillance market and expands its production pipeline for the GlobalEye platform through the end of the decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company confirmed that only limited details about the agreement would be released, including the number of aircraft, the contract value, the delivery schedule, and the customer’s location in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This order underscores our commitment to providing customers with mission-proven, multi-domain AEW&C capability,” Saab President and Chief Executive Officer Micael Johansson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The increasing international interest in GlobalEye reflects its effectiveness and reliability in modern air defense operations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement comes as militaries worldwide continue investing in airborne surveillance platforms capable of detecting and tracking increasingly sophisticated aerial, maritime, and ground threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


GlobalEye Offers Multi-Domain Surveillance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

GlobalEye is Saab’s flagship airborne early warning and control system, built on the Bombardier Global 6000 business jet platform and designed to provide long-range surveillance across multiple operational domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft integrates active and passive sensors capable of detecting, identifying, and tracking targets in the air, at sea, and on land over vast distances.<\/p>\n\n\n

It delivers real-time intelligence to military commanders, enabling faster decision-making and improved coordination during complex operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Saab, the system enhances situational awareness, supports early threat detection, and strengthens modern air defense networks by providing continuous surveillance across large operational areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft is intended to support joint military operations by sharing real-time information among air, naval, and ground forces, making it a critical asset for integrated defense strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Customer Identity Remains Undisclosed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saab said it would not disclose the customer’s identity or provide additional operational details because of national security interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the company did not reveal the buyer, defense analysts have identified several potential candidates in the Middle East based on regional force modernization programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Arab Emirates remains the launch customer for the GlobalEye system, having already received five aircraft. Other regional countries that have either existing airborne surveillance fleets or modernization requirements include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia currently operates a fleet of Boeing E-3A Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft, as well as two Saab 2000 aircraft equipped with Erieye radar systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Kuwait and Qatar currently do not operate dedicated airborne early warning aircraft, making them possible future operators as regional security demands continue to evolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Saab has not confirmed whether any of these countries are the purchaser under the newly announced contract.<\/p>\n\n\n

Growing International Demand<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest sale adds to a growing list of international customers selecting the GlobalEye platform. In addition to the United Arab Emirates, Saab has secured orders from Sweden, which is acquiring three aircraft, and France, which has ordered two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada has also selected GlobalEye as its preferred future airborne early warning solution and plans to acquire the aircraft under a forthcoming procurement program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interest in the platform expanded further earlier this month when NATO announced plans to begin negotiations with Saab for the acquisition of up to 10 GlobalEye aircraft to replace the alliance’s aging airborne surveillance fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed NATO fleet will be based on the newer Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft and is expected to involve multiple alliance members, including Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, and Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saab confirmed that it has entered formal negotiations with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency regarding the potential contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If finalized, the NATO program would become one of the largest GlobalEye acquisitions to date and significantly expand the aircraft’s presence among allied air forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest order reflects a broader trend in global defense procurement as countries invest heavily in advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airborne early warning aircraft have become increasingly important in modern warfare because they extend radar coverage far beyond the range of ground-based systems while coordinating air defense operations across large geographic areas.<\/p>\n\n\n
