Signing this $6.1 billion contract alongside Italy and Japan is a major step forward towards delivery,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pollard added that the program would strengthen cooperation with allied nations, support thousands of skilled jobs across the United Kingdom, and provide the Royal Air Force with advanced capabilities backed by the government&#8217;s $11.4 billion investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>Edgewing Leads International Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Edgewing serves as the industrial prime contractor for GCAP and was formally established in June 2025 by three national defense companies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BAE Systems (United Kingdom)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leonardo (Italy)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement Co. Ltd. (JAIEC)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each company holds an equal one-third ownership stake in the joint venture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Headquartered in the United Kingdom, Edgewing acts as the program&#8217;s single design authority, coordinating engineering, systems integration, and overall project management across all three participating nations.
