Both proposed sales have been submitted to the U.S. Congress for review and must receive final legislative approval before proceeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>Wider Defense Expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The helicopter acquisition comes as New Zealand undertakes one of its most significant military modernization efforts in decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister Christopher Luxon\u2019s government unveiled a long-term defense plan in 2025 that includes approximately NZ$9 billion ($5 billion) in additional defense spending over four years. It&#8217;s entirely appropriate that we double our defense spending,\u201d Luxon said.
