{"id":3398,"date":"2015-12-08T19:47:54","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T19:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=3398"},"modified":"2015-12-08T19:49:14","modified_gmt":"2015-12-08T19:49:14","slug":"isis-seeks-to-boost-recruitment-in-china-with-war-song","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/isis-seeks-to-boost-recruitment-in-china-with-war-song\/","title":{"rendered":"ISIS seeks to boost recruitment in China with war song"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story-continues-1\" class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-para-count=\"186\" data-total-count=\"186\">BEIJING (China) \u2014\u00a0Two weeks after first known execution of a Chinese hostage by ISIS, extremist group Islamic State has published a war song in Chinese Mandarin that calls on the country\u2019s Muslims to take up arms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-para-count=\"186\" data-total-count=\"186\">The group recently posted a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" title=\"The recording.\" href=\"http:\/\/jihadology.net\/2015\/12\/06\/new-nashid-from-the-islamic-state-mujahid\/\">digital recording<\/a><\/span> of a new chant in Mandarin Chinese that calls for Muslims to \u201cwake up\u201d and \u201ctake up weapons to fight.\u201d The chant is typical of many others released by the group, also called <a class=\"meta-org\" title=\"More articles about the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/organizations\/a\/al_qaeda_in_mesopotamia\/index.html?inline=nyt-org\">ISIS<\/a>or ISIL.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-para-count=\"186\" data-total-count=\"186\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/sitemultimedia.org\/audio\/SITE_IS_HMC_Chinese_Mujahid.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">The four-minute song<\/a><\/span> was released Al-Hayat Media Center, Islamic State\u2019s media arm, and distributed through Twitter and messaging app Telegram\u00a0on Sunday,\u00a0according to <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" title=\"The assessment.\" href=\"https:\/\/news.siteintelgroup.com\/Jihadist-News\/is-al-hayat-media-center-releases-chinese-chant-glorifying-fighters.html\">an assessment\u00a0<\/a><\/span>on Monday by the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks the propaganda of jihadist groups.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Like many of the group\u2019s chants, known as nasheeds, the track is slickly produced and hypnotically infectious, with lyrics that extol death in service of Islam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are Mujahid, our shameless enemy panics before us,\u201d a male voice, enhanced with a digital echo, sings in the chorus. \u00a0\u201cOur dream is to die fighting on this battlefield.. Wake up Muslim brother, now is the time to wake up\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is unclear who exactly ISIS is trying to reach with this almost hypnotically infectious track. Usual recruitment methods are directed at China&#8217;s Uighur separatist movement, but that group prefers to speak a Turkic language totally different from Mandarin, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/shanghaiist.com\/2015\/12\/08\/isis_mandarin_song.php\" target=\"_blank\">highlights a report<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In June, ISIS released a propaganda video featuring their oldest member, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/shanghaiist.com\/2015\/06\/04\/oldest_jihadi_from_china.php\" target=\"_blank\">an 80-year-old Uighur grandfather<\/a><\/span>, describing his decision to leave China after decades of oppression and join the Islamic State. The same video also shows Uighur children dressed in military garb, interviewed about joining the Islamic State.
