More than 15 explosions strike Islamic State positions in Raqqa countryside which killed dozens of militants and few civilians\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

KOBANE\u00a0<\/em>\u2013\u00a0At least 35 ISIS militants were killed in new wave of airstrikes on Syria\u2019s northeastern province of Raqqa on Sunday\u2019s strikes, according to ARA News<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

United States, France, Russia, and recently Britain too, have been carrying out airstrikes in and around Raqqa in recent weeks. But it was unclear which country conducting bombing operations in Syria was responsible for the airstrikes against ISIS.<\/p>\n

\u201cDozens of other militants were wounded and subsequently transferred to the main hospital in the city,\u201d a medical source in Raqqa told<\/a><\/span> Syrian Independent\u00a0news agency (ARA News).<\/p>\n

More than 15 explosions hit ISIS positions in the countryside of Raqqa province and near its capital, Raqqa city, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Raqqa is considered to be the Syrian stronghold of ISIS.<\/p>\n

However, the strikes on Sunday have also caused dozens of civilian casualties.<\/p>\n

Speaking to ARA News<\/a><\/span> in Raqqa, civil rights activists of the campaign \u201cRaqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently\u201d reported the death of 15 civilians and the injury of more than 30 others.<\/p>\n

UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, however, has claimed that 32 jihadi fighters were killed<\/a><\/span> and 40 more injured in US-led airstrikes Raqqa province on Sunday<\/p>\n

The United States and its allies have been bombing ISIS in Iraq and Syria in an effort to drive the group from swathes of territory it controls in both countries.<\/p>\n

In central Syria, at least 45 air strikes, probably carried out by Russia, hit the city of Palmyra, which is also under ISIS\u2019 control, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Injuries were reported, but no details on the casualty toll were available.<\/p>\n

UK also joined the airstrikes this week after its lawmakers approved bombing ISIS targets in Syria. Hours after the vote, British bombers struck oilfields the government and also made a second round of strikes on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
