The meeting comes amid rising regional tensions following U.S. military deployments to the Middle East and renewed warnings from Washington toward Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Istanbul. (Image Credit: Presidency of the Republic of T\u00fcrkiye)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The statement also said Erdogan informed Pezeshkian that he would receive Iran\u2019s foreign minister later on Friday in Ankara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Araghchi\u2019s visit to Turkiye comes just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump said he hoped to avoid military action against Iran, despite weeks of sharp rhetoric and an expanding U.S. military presence in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iran has warned it would strike American bases and aircraft carriers if attacked. A U.S. naval strike group has been operating in Middle Eastern waters since Monday, and Trump previously said it was \u201cready, willing, and able\u201d to hit Iran if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Late on Thursday, however, Trump appeared to soften his tone slightly. \u201cWe have a group headed out to a place called Iran, and hopefully we won\u2019t have to use it,\u201d Trump told reporters, after earlier saying that time was \u201crunning out\u201d for Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For several weeks, Trump has threatened military action against Iran over its deadly crackdown on protests earlier this month. White House officials have said the president has not made a final decision and remains open to a diplomatic solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have had, and I am planning on it,\u201d Trump said when asked whether he was in contact with Iranian officials. \u201cI told them: Number one, no nuclear, and number two, stop killing protesters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Turkiye Positions Itself as Mediator<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turkiye has repeatedly voiced strong opposition to military action and has offered to mediate between Washington and Tehran. Officials said this message would be central to Fidan\u2019s discussions with Araghchi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fidan has urged both sides to return to negotiations and has argued that talks should proceed incrementally rather than attempting to resolve all disputes at once. (Image Credit: Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Araghchi said he discussed with Fidan possible venues and agendas for talks with the Trump administration. \u201cI hope we can soon reach a clear framework that can guarantee dignified negotiations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to see the conditions and the agenda first,\u201d Araghchi added, stressing that any negotiations must be \u201cfair and equitable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said Iran would not negotiate over its ballistic missile program and emphasized that Tehran is prepared for both diplomacy and conflict. \u201cIran is ready for both scenarios, war or diplomacy,\u201d Araghchi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Security Concerns Along the Turkiye-Iran Border<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside its diplomatic efforts, Ankara is also assessing additional security measures along its border with Iran in case the crisis escalates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A senior Turkish official said authorities are reviewing precautions along the 500-kilometer frontier.
