{"id":3379,"date":"2015-12-05T17:21:33","date_gmt":"2015-12-05T17:21:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=3379"},"modified":"2016-05-22T11:01:03","modified_gmt":"2016-05-22T11:01:03","slug":"americans-fear-homegrown-terrorists-more-than-foreign-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/americans-fear-homegrown-terrorists-more-than-foreign-poll\/","title":{"rendered":"Americans fear \u2018homegrown\u2019 terrorists more than foreign: Poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Quinnipiac Poll suggests that Americans see homegrown terrorists as bigger threat than Foreign-born Terrorists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Around 58 percent of American voters think homegrown terrorists\u00a0are the\u00a0greater threat than foreign-national extremists, according to a recent <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.quinnipiac.edu\/news-and-events\/quinnipiac-university-poll\/national\/release-detail?ReleaseID=2308\" target=\"_blank\">national poll<\/a><\/span> released by\u00a0Quinnipiac University <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quinnipiac.edu\/news-and-events\/quinnipiac-university-poll\/national\/release-detail?ReleaseID=2308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">national poll<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The poll was taken in the same week as\u00a0the mass <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" title=\"At least 14 dead in California shooting; 2 suspects killed\" href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/at-least-14-dead-in-california-shooting-2-suspects-killed\/\" target=\"_blank\">shootings in San Bernardino<\/a><\/span>, California, and Colorado Springs, Colorado.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u201cAmericans are far more concerned about the threat from within, homegrown terrorists, than they are about someone being welcomed to the U.S. as a refugee and committing an act of terror,\u201d said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll,\u00a0in a news release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nearly 6 in 10 U.S. voters think the gravest threat from radical Islam comes from within, according to the Poll. About 58 percent say that homegrown jihadists are America\u2019s most likely terrorism danger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another 16 percent said the most likely threat is radical Islamists infiltrating the U.S. as Syrian refugees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Opinions on security screening for refugees depended on how much voters know, Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt takes time and meticulous vetting to be accepted as a Syrian refugee,\u201d he said in a written statement. \u201cVoters who know that are far more accepting than those who may not understand the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The poll also found that 83 percent think a major terrorist attack in the U.S. is \u201cvery likely\u201d or \u201csomewhat likely\u201d in the near future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">About 61 percent said that government anti-terror policies were not adequate national security measures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just 27 percent believed the government had restricted too many civil liberties fighting extremism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The majority of Americans still oppose admitting Syrian refugees within the nation\u2019s borders, however. Fifty-two percent oppose that idea, while 42 percent support it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The same survey found 52 percent of American voters were opposed to letting Syrian refugees into the U.S. Among political lines: 68 percent of Democrats would accept refugees, while 84 percent of Republicans would oppose it. Independent voters were divided as 46 percent support accepting refugees while 49 percent opposed the idea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The survey also found 6 out of every 10 people said they worried the government wasn\u2019t going far enough to protect them against terrorism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.quinnipiac.edu\/news-and-events\/quinnipiac-university-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quinnipiac University<\/a><\/span> conducted its latest sampling of 1,453 registered voters nationwide via cell and landline phones from Nov. 23 to Nov. 26.
