During the visit, Rutte <strong>reaffirmed NATO\u2019s collective defense capability<\/strong> amid growing concerns over the <strong>partial withdrawal of US troops<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a joint press conference with President Dan, Rutte said the alliance\u2019s collective defense capability makes it \u201cabsolutely unbeatable,\u201d expressing confidence that no adversary would dare to attack any NATO member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf this country were under attack, there would be 31 other nations coming to the rescue of Romania. This is how NATO works,\u201d Rutte said. \u201cAnd I think this makes us unbeatable, absolutely unbeatable. And that is why I believe that nobody will ever try.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rutte described Romania as a \u201csteadfast and valued ally\u201d in the strategically important Black Sea region, highlighting its leadership alongside Bulgaria and Turkiye in expanding demining and patrol operations. Rutte also reaffirmed that NATO remains vigilant amid repeated Russian drone incursions into Romanian airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNATO takes these incidents extremely seriously, and we will remain vigilant,\u201d he said. \u201cDeterrence is the bedrock of our defense, and so we are making crystal clear that NATO is ready, willing, and able to do what it takes to defend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rutte also attended the NATO Industry Forum to urge stronger defense production and closer industry cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Reassurance after US\u2019s withdrawal from Romania<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing recent concerns about the partial withdrawal of U.S. forces from Romania, Rutte downplayed fears that the move signaled waning American commitment. \u201cAdjustments to U.S. force posture are not unusual,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd even with this adjustment, the U.S. force posturing in Europe remains larger than it has been for many years. (Image Credit: NATO)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Rutte emphasized that the United States remains a key contributor to NATO\u2019s eastern defense. \u201cThe U.S. has a big presence in Europe, and that presence is there&#8230; These adjustments take place. Please don\u2019t read too much into that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to NATO figures, between 80,000 and 100,000 U.S. troops are deployed across Europe at any given time, depending on operations and exercises. The U.S. recently announced that it would withdraw a rotating brigade from Romania and not replace it, describing the move as \u201ca positive sign of increased European capability and responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Romania\u2019s Role in NATO Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Dan said Romania remains committed to its defense obligations and to strengthening NATO\u2019s eastern flank. \u201cThe Eastern Sentry operation and the military exercise that is being conducted now are proof that we are coordinating for large movements of military troops,\u201d he said, referring to the alliance\u2019s latest joint activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NATO Secretary General also praised Romania\u2019s contributions to alliance readiness through ongoing exercises such as Dacian Fall, held this month in Romania and Bulgaria. He described NATO-EU collaboration on anti-drone technology as \u201ca powerful combination,\u201d underscoring how innovation and shared defense investments are key to maintaining Europe\u2019s security edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>NATO Industry Forum in Bucharest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NATO chief\u2019s visit coincided with the 2025 NATO Industry Forum, hosted in Bucharest.
