Russia says crash was \u2018unequivocally a terrorist act\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Tuesday\u00a0that the Russian passenger plane that crashed in Egypt’s Sinai last month killing all 224 aboard<\/a><\/span> was\u00a0blown up by a homemade bomb.<\/p>\n

“FSB and law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation are taking measures to detect the people involved in the crime,” he said,\u00a0according to the\u00a0TASS news agency.<\/p>\n

Alexander Bortnikov, the FSB’s chief, told Russian state media that\u00a0“traces of foreign explosives” were found in debris recovered from the crash site.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can say that that [Sinai plane crash] was a terror act,\u201d Bortnikov told Putin.\u00a0According to the FSB chief, experts analyzed passengers\u2019 belongings as well as the parts of the plane.\u00a0\u201cAfter the examination on all these objects, we have found traces of a foreign-made explosive substance,\u201d Bortnikov said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the flight, a homemade device with the power of 1.5 kilograms of TNT was detonated. As a result, the plane fell apart in the air, which can be explained by the huge scattering of the fuselage parts of the plane,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Putin vows\u00a0to find and punish the culprits behind the Sinai plane attack<\/span><\/h3>\n

This not the first time that Russia has faced \u201cbarbarous terrorist crimes, more often without apparent causes, outside or domestic, as it was with the explosion at the railway station in Volgograd at the end of 2013,\u201d\u00a0He added: \u201cWe haven\u2019t forgotten anything or anyone. The murder of our nationals in Sinai is among the bloodiest crimes in [terms of] the number of casualties.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Russia won\u2019t be \u201cwiping tears from our soul and heart,\u201d he said. \u201cThis [tragedy] will stay with us forever. But this won\u2019t stop us from finding and punishing the culprit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vladimir Putin has vowed to find and punish the culprits behind the Sinai plane attack.\u00a0\u201cOur military work in Syria must not only continue. It must be strengthened in such a way so that the terrorists will understand that retribution is inevitable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
