{"id":3225,"date":"2015-11-15T12:33:58","date_gmt":"2015-11-15T12:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=3225"},"modified":"2015-11-15T12:34:30","modified_gmt":"2015-11-15T12:34:30","slug":"world-powers-agree-to-syria-peace-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/world-powers-agree-to-syria-peace-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"World powers agree to Syria peace plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"subheadline\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Foreign ministers from 19 countries have agreed to a plan to bring peace to Syria following the terrorist attacks in Paris.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"text combinedtext parbase section\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>VIENNA (Austria) \u2014 Foreign ministers of nearly 20 nations agreed Saturday to an ambitious yet incomplete plan for bringing peace to Syria and ending its role as a breeding ground for the Islamic State and other radical Islamic groups.<\/p>\n<p>The peace plan for Syria, which includes a transitional government in six months and elections in 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement after the<a title=\"At least 129 killed in France\u2019s deadliest attack since World War II\" href=\"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/at-least-129-killed-in-frances-deadliest-attack-since-world-war-ii\/\">\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\">terrorist attacks on Paris<\/span><\/a>, the countries involved in the talks, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, also said they would push for formal talks between Bashar al Assad&#8217;s government and opposition groups by January 1.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text combinedtext parbase section\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>Countries such as Iran and Saudi Arabia, which support different sides in the conflict, put aside their dispute to condemn the bombings and shootings that left at least 127 people in the French capital dead Friday. So did Moscow and Washington.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text combinedtext parbase section\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Standing next to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ahead of Saturday\u2019s full ministerial meeting, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called the attacks \u201cthe most vile, horrendous, outrageous, unacceptable acts on the planet\u201d. He said they \u201cencouraged us today to do even harder work to make progress and to help resolve the crises that we face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The fresh round of talks on the Syrian crisis opened in Vienna with the participation of senior representatives from 17 countries, the UN, EU and Arab League.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abdulbaset Sieda, a member of the\u00a0 Western-backed opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC), said the timeframe was too ambitious.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I am not sure it will be in 18 months&#8217; time. Of course we need to be hopeful for the future, but we need more time,&#8221; he <a href=\"http:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/1587897\/syria-peace-plan-sees-elections-in-18-months\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> on the sidelines of the Vienna talks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Western and Arab countries want him out of the way to let a transitional government unite the country behind a reconciliation process and defeat IS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Russia, carrying out air strikes against Syrian rebels since late September, is sticking by Assad along with Iran, which does not want a Sunni-controlled Syria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Obviously those of us who met in Vienna today&#8230; did not agree on all issues when it comes to Syria.
