{"id":31619,"date":"2025-09-17T00:01:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T21:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/?p=31619"},"modified":"2025-09-17T00:08:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T21:08:14","slug":"un-inquiry-report-declares-israels-war-on-gaza-as-genocide-holds-government-responsible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/un-inquiry-report-declares-israels-war-on-gaza-as-genocide-holds-government-responsible\/","title":{"rendered":"UN inquiry report declares Israel\u2019s war on Gaza as genocide, holds government responsible"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>4 minute read<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A United Nations inquiry has concluded that Israel\u2019s war on Gaza amounts to genocide, directly holding the Israeli state and top leaders accountable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairwoman of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Navi Pillay said the commission\u2019s report found Israel responsible for committing genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pillay said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and President Isaac Herzog were identified as responsible based on their statements and orders to initiate the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve identified the president, the prime minister, and the former minister of defense based on their statements and the orders that they\u2019ve given,\u201d Pillay said, adding that \u201cBecause these three individuals were agents of the state, under the law, the state is held responsible. So we say it\u2019s [the] State of Israel that has committed genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commission concluded that statements from Israeli leaders, combined with actions on the ground, demonstrated genocidal intent. The report stated: \u201cThe Commission concludes that the Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces have the genocidal intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;The Commission finds that the Israeli authorities intended to kill as many Palestinians as possible through its military operations in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Gaza?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Gaza<\/a> since 7 October 2023 and knew that the means and methods of warfare employed would cause mass deaths of Palestinians, including children.&quot; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/588aivZJAI\">pic.twitter.com\/588aivZJAI<\/a><\/p>&mdash; United Nations Geneva (@UNGeneva) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UNGeneva\/status\/1967997058024869925?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 16, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p><br><br><strong>Israeli Response<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the findings, calling them \u201cfake\u201d and accusing the authors of acting as \u201cHamas proxies.\u201d In a post on X, the ministry said, \u201cThe report relies entirely on Hamas falsehoods, laundered and repeated by others. Israel categorically rejects this distorted and false report and calls for the immediate abolition of this Commission of Inquiry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s permanent representative to the UN, Daniel Meron, condemned the report as \u201cscandalous,\u201d \u201cfake,\u201d and a \u201clibelous rant.\u201d This is not the first time Israel has been formally accused of genocide in Gaza. (Image Credit: Reuters\/Amir Cohen)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>While the number of victims is not relevant for an act to constitute an act of genocide, the Commission notes that the number of victims may be taken into consideration to establish genocidal intent,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, after Hamas attacks in southern Israel killed 1,139 people and took more than 200 captive, with 48 still held in Gaza. Since then, Israeli bombardments and ground operations have killed at least 64,871 people and wounded 164,610, according to Gaza\u2019s Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commission called on Israel to enforce a \u201ccomplete permanent\u201d ceasefire, allow unhindered access to Gaza by UN agencies, end the \u201cpolicy\u201d of starvation, and halt the U.S.- and Israeli-backed GHF aid distribution system, which it said contributed to deaths and injuries of thousands of Palestinians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also urged Israel to allow access to the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, so that investigations can continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the same day the findings were released, Israeli attacks on Gaza intensified. Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that the enclave was \u201con fire\u201d as the military launched a ground invasion of Gaza City.
