Four of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) condemned Israel\u2019s plan to fully occupy Gaza during an emergency meeting on August 10, 2025. The United States was the only major power offering support to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu\u2019s controversial move.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France criticized the Israeli Security Cabinet\u2019s approval of Netanyahu\u2019s \u201cgradual plan\u201d to take control of Gaza City<\/mark><\/a>, displace Palestinians from the north to the south of the enclave, and dismantle what Israel says are Hamas strongholds. The plan has been widely denounced as a violation of international law and a step toward permanent occupation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the global backlash, Netanyahu defended the new military offensive in Gaza declaring that Israel \u201chas no choice but to finish the job and complete the defeat of Hamas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Russia accuses Israel of deception<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russian Deputy Permanent Representative Dmitry Polyanskiy described the decision as \u201ca gross violation of international law\u201d and accused Israeli leaders of \u201cblatant disregard for the appeals of the international community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He alleged that Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar had misled the Council in a previous appearance, claiming concern for hostages while knowing the Cabinet had already approved the occupation plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moscow warned that the move would only escalate tensions, further destabilize the region, and deepen humanitarian suffering in Gaza, where food shortages and mass displacement have already reached critical levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


China says Gaza is Palestinian territory<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

China\u2019s UN Permanent Representative Fu Cong called on Israel to \u201cstop this dangerous move at once,\u201d stressing that \u201cGaza belongs to the Palestinian people\u201d and is \u201can integral part of the Palestinian territory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fu said any attempt to alter Gaza\u2019s demographic or territorial character must be \u201cmet with utmost rejection and resistance\u201d and warned against the \u201cillusion of military supremacy.\u201d He urged Israel to comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law by lifting aid restrictions and opening all border crossings.<\/p>\n\n\n

UK and France oppose Israeli plan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UK Deputy Permanent Representative James Kariuk told the Council that Israel\u2019s decision was \u201cwrong\u201d and would \u201cdo nothing to bring an end to this conflict.\u201d He said the expansion of military operations risked worsening the humanitarian crisis and would not secure the release of the hostages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

France\u2019s Deputy Permanent Representative Jay Dharmadhikari echoed those concerns, declaring that Paris has \u201cfirm opposition to any plan for the occupation, annexation, and settlement of the Gaza Strip.\u201d He warned that implementing the decision \u201cwill in no way contribute to the security of Israel and its nationals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


UN members condemn Israel\u2019s plan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the criticism, five Council members, Britain, France, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia, issued a joint statement urging Israel to \u201curgently reverse this decision and not to implement it.\u201d Slovenia\u2019s UN Ambassador Samuel Zbogar said the plan \u201crisks violating international humanitarian law\u201d and described Gaza\u2019s worsening conditions as \u201ca manmade crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChildren are dying from starvation,\u201d Zbogar said. \u201cHunger is so severe that desperate civilians are taking the risk of getting killed at aid distribution sites to feed their families.\u201d The group called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a renewed push toward a two-state solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Israeli Government\u2019s decision to escalate its offensive in Gaza is wrong, we urge it to reconsider.

This will do nothing to end the conflict and suffering in Gaza.
