Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was downed by a Russian-made \u201cwarhead\u201d fired from eastern Ukraine that detonated outside the jet\u2019s cockpit, Dutch investigators concluded in their final report<\/a><\/span> Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The findings of the Dutch Safety Board \u2014 which did not assign blame for the deadly crash \u2014 were announced at a press conference against the dramatic backdrop of the Boeing 777\u2019s partially reconstructed fuselage.<\/p>\n

Tjibbe Joustra, chairman of the Dutch Safety Board, said that the crash was caused by \u201cthe detonation of a warhead\u201d to the left of the cockpit.<\/p>\n

The missile attack on the civilian Boeing 777-200, on July 17, 2014, killed all 298 passengers and crew on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n

The passengers on the fatal flight\u00a0came from about a dozen countries but 193 of the passengers were Dutch which is why\u00a0utch Safety Board led the investigation<\/p>\n

State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the report validated Secretary of State John Kerry’s statement more than a year ago that the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile launched from territory controlled by Russian-backed separatists, Separatist leaders bragged “about shooting down an aircraft in the immediate aftermath of this tragic event,” Toner\u00a0 said.<\/p>\n
