The head of the Chechen Republic has asked the Russian president to send Chechen units to fight ISIS in Syria, adding that his fighters have sworn to fight terrorists till the end.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, has asked Vladimir Putin to send him to Syria, claiming that a land operation using Chechen ground troops would wipe out Islamic State terrorists.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe terrorists don\u2019t know what a real war is, because they have only been subjected to airstrikes. They don\u2019t have experience of real military action,\u201d said Kadyrov in an interview with a Russian news agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf our request is granted, it will be a celebration for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

When the decision to launch strikes was taken on Wednesday<\/a>, Kadyrov said it was unfortunate there would be no land operation, and on Friday he again emphasised his readiness to send some of his fearsome battalions into Syria.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not idle talk, I am asking for permission to go there and participate in special operations<\/em>,\u201d Ramzan Kadyrov said in the Friday interview with the RSN radio. \u201cBeing a Muslim, a Chechen and a Russian patriot I want to say that in 1999 when our republic was overrun with these devils we swore on the Koran that we would fight them wherever they are<\/em>,\u201d the Chechen leader said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we need the Commander-in-Chief\u2019s decision to do this<\/em>,\u201d he emphasized. According to the Russian Constitution, the president is also the commander-in-chief of the military forces.<\/p>\n

Putin is unlikely to grant Kadyrov\u2019s wish, having made it clear several times that current Russian military action in Syria will involve airstrikes only.<\/p>\n

Kadyrov also noted that Chechen special forces units were at a very high level of combat readiness and promised that \u201cas soon as the terrorists in Syria understand that we are heading there they will very quickly get out<\/em>,\u201d adding that terrorists have little experience of real warfare.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know them because we have destroyed them here, we have fought them. And they also know us<\/em>,\u201d the Chechen leader said.<\/p>\n

At the same time Kadyrov acknowledged that the fight against the IS threat must not be limited to power methods, but should also include education \u2013 the younger generation must be taught that extremist groups use the wrong interpretations of the Koran.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
