The collaboration is focused on delivering innovative and effective solutions for the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) program, which supports medium- and short-range air defense capabilities.

Both companies plan to design and deliver a comprehensive approach tailored to meet the goals of the UK’s Land GBAD Programme. This approach emphasizes interoperability, adaptability, and scalability, providing a compelling solution that addresses the evolving security challenges faced by the UK. The signed MoU formalizes this collaboration and outlines the shared responsibilities, project scope, and strategic direction the companies will pursue.

Northrop Grumman, a global leader in aerospace and defense technology, brings its deep experience in advanced air and missile defense command-and-control (C2) systems. These technologies are essential for coordinating, tracking, and responding to airborne threats in real time. Meanwhile, Marshall Land Systems contributes its long-established expertise in engineering ruggedized, modular, and containerized storage and shelter systems, which are critical components in mobile and deployable defense operations.

The importance of this partnership is amplified by the increasing need for modernized, resilient air defense capabilities across NATO allies and global partners. Northrop Grumman is already at the forefront of delivering such capabilities. It is the prime contractor for the U.S. Army’s primary GBAD systems, the Forward Area Air Defense (FAAD) and the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS).

The U.S. Army testing the integrated battle command system. It is designed with a modular, open-architecture framework that connects various sensors and weapons systems into a unified battle management network. This allows for a real-time, fused picture of the battlespace, enabling quicker, more informed decision-making by military commanders.

IBCS has already begun to gain traction outside of the United States. Poland has recently chosen IBCS to serve as the backbone of its short-range air defense initiative, reinforcing its role as a reliable and effective solution for integrated defense operations. Furthermore, IBCS is being prepared for deployment in other strategic locations, including Guam, as part of the U.S. military’s broader efforts to modernize its integrated air and missile defense systems.

Vice president and general manager of command and control & weapons integration at Northrop Grumman, Kenn Todorov said, “We are excited to work with Marshall to adapt our proven command and control capabilities in support of modernizing the MoD’s air and missile defense systems.”

Todorov further highlighted that “We are confident that with Marshall’s support we can present a compelling and fully integrated proposal that will enable the British Army to stay ahead of evolving threats in our contested environment, giving warfighters more decision time to save lives.”

Marshall Chief Growth Officer Bob Baxter said, “This agreement with Northrop Grumman opens the door for Marshall to build on its track record of delivering for the UK’s armed forces.”

“Marshall is at its best when working alongside industry partners, and I am confident that this will be reflected in the exceptional engineering and production support that we will provide to compliment Northrop Grumman’s world-leading air defence technologies,” Baxter added.

A Northrop Grumman-produced Engagement Operations Center at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. By involving Marshall, a UK-based firm with decades of experience in supporting the armed forces, the partnership will utilize domestic manufacturing capabilities and create new opportunities for growth in the local defense supply chain. Marshall’s previous work includes the development of the Fire Distribution Centre (FDC) for Kongsberg’s National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), another integral component of modern GBAD solutions.

Marshall views this partnership as a continuation and expansion of its mission to support UK defense forces with dependable, scalable, and quickly deployable infrastructure.
