Meanwhile, Putin said he will \u201cpropose and is ready to work with\u201d Ukraine on a \u201cmemorandum\u201d outlining the framework for \u201ca possible future peace treaty.\u201d However, the details remain unclear, and key players remain divided on the path forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump, who also spoke with several European leaders on the same day, described the tone of his conversation with Putin as \u201cexcellent.\u201d The conversation came just days after the first direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in threeyears, which led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/first-russia-ukraine-direct-talks-in-three-years-yield-little-progress-beyond-prisoner-swap\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ac0707\" class=\"has-inline-color\">limited prisoner exchange<\/mark><\/a> but no halt to hostilities. A source from the Ukrainian President\u2019s Office said that Ukraine continues to insist on this baseline requirement in ongoing talks with the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The disconnect raises concerns that Russia is seeking to drag negotiations into a gray zone of protracted diplomacy, while continuing its operations on the ground. Earlier this week, Russia launched its largest drone attack on Ukraine since the war began, intensifying skepticism about Moscow\u2019s true intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Zelenskyy\u2019s reaction and what Ukraine wants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the latest diplomatic push by reiterating Ukraine\u2019s commitment to a full and unconditional ceasefire. He called on the international community to maintain pressure on Moscow if it continues its invasion. \u201cUkraine doesn\u2019t need to be persuaded \u2014 our representatives are ready to make real decisions. What\u2019s needed is mirrored readiness from Russia for such result-oriented negotiations,\u201d Zelenskyy said. France\u2019s Macron and other European leaders continue to back Trump\u2019s call for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire, but no agreement has materialized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Russian military continues to maintain offensive pressure in eastern Ukraine, while Kyiv warns of missile threats and prepares defenses. In parallel, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that new sanctions remain an option if Russia does not engage in good faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink\u2019s resignation continues to stir debate in Washington. Brink, who quit last month, criticized Trump\u2019s approach as overly lenient toward Moscow. \u201cPeace at any price is not peace at all,\u201d she warned. \u201cIt\u2019s appeasement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>A turning point in the US-Russia-Ukraine diplomatic triangle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trump-Putin call has marked a turning point in the trilateral diplomatic efforts to achieve peace. Trump\u2019s announcement that \u201cRussia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations\u201d was headline-grabbing, but lacks a timeline, location, or confirmation from Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, Trump insists that the tone was promising. \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t, I would say so now, rather than later,\u201d he said. But for many in Europe and Ukraine, tone matters less than action.
