{"id":2856,"date":"2015-07-25T21:32:06","date_gmt":"2015-07-25T21:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=2856"},"modified":"2015-07-27T15:07:38","modified_gmt":"2015-07-27T15:07:38","slug":"china-eyes-increased-arms-export-to-south-america-and-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/china-eyes-increased-arms-export-to-south-america-and-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"China eyes increased arms export to South America and Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>South American and African countries are beginning to show a preference for\u00a0Chinese-made weapons.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Peru is expected to debut its first Chinese-imported rocket launcher during its National Day parade on July 29, marking the nation&#8217;s independence anniversary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This will be the first time China\u2019s 122mm Type 90 multi-barrel rocket-launcher weapons system has equipped Peru\u2019s armed forces, marking China\u2019s growing role in the region as the go-to resource for arms imports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">China has previously provided the Peruvian military with shells and other associated equipment for their current BM-21 rocket launchers, which were bought from the former Soviet Union in the 1970s, over the past five years. However, China has since begun supplying rockets as well to the South American nation, according to a report by state-run <a href=\"http:\/\/english.chinamil.com.cn\/news-channels\/china-military-news\/2015-07\/24\/content_6599200.htm\" target=\"_blank\">China Military Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis batch of 90B multi-barrel rocket launchers purchased by the Peruvian military were produced by China North Industries Group Corporation,\u201d the report said. \u201cDeveloped in the middle of the 1990s, these rocket launchers were mainly used to replace the Russian-made BM-21 rocket launchers and their imitations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Interest in China\u2019s technological advancement has grown significantly in the South American market, shifting away from traditional suppliers like the U.S. or Russia. In addition to Peru, other countries like Argentina, Bolivia and Ecuador are reportedly beginning to show a preference for\u00a0Chinese-made weapons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Globally, China represents only\u00a05 percent of the $300 billion global arms export market, compared to America\u2019s 31 percent and Russia\u2019s 27 percent, but it is still <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/chinas-military-power-now-third-largest-arms-exporter-unseating-germany-1848320\" target=\"_blank\">the third-largest exporter<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Though China\u2019s growth as an exporter during last years between 2009 and 2014 has\u00a0been fueled mostly by demand in Asia (specifically Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh), the country is seeing growth in African and South American markets, as well. China exported to 18 African states between this time period and secured a deal with Venezuela for armored vehicles and a transport and trainer aircraft, the report said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">China is increasingly producing more-sophisticated weaponry, an annual Stockholm International Peace Research Institute <a href=\"http:\/\/books.sipri.org\/files\/FS\/SIPRIFS1503.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">report said<\/span>.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South American and African countries are beginning to show a preference for\u00a0Chinese-made weapons.
