A Russian defense official just claimed the country created a ‘microwave gun’ that can disable drones and warheads from 6 miles away<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Russian military has created a \u201cmicrowave gun\u201d capable of disabling drones known as unmanned aerial vehicles and the warheads in airborne projectiles, a spokesman for the Kremlin-owned United Instrument Manufacturing Corp. said Monday.<\/p>\n

Kremlin-owned United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation has reportedly constructed and begun testing on a “microwave gun” capable of knocking both UAVs\u00a0and missiles<\/a> out of the air from six miles away. What’s more, the gun is also supposedly capable of disrupting the radio electronic equipment of low-flying planes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new system is equipped with\u00a0a high-power relativistic generator and reflector antenna, management and control system, and a transmission system which is fixed on\u00a0the chassis of\u00a0BUK surface-to-air missile systems. When mounted on\u00a0a special platform, the \u2018microwave gun\u2019 is capable of\u00a0ensuring perimeter defense at\u00a0360 degrees,\u201d\u00a0a company spokesman told Sputnik News<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

UIMC is expected to demonstrate the new weapon during this week’s Defense Ministry’s Army-2015 expo.<\/p>\n

The newly-developed equipment is capable of\u00a0deactivating the radio electronics of\u00a0UAVs and the warheads of\u00a0precision weapons, according to\u00a0a representative of\u00a0the corporation.<\/p>\n

The equipment, informally named the microwave gun, has been developed for\u00a0the needs of\u00a0Russia\u2019s Defense Ministry and will be demonstrated during\u00a0the closed part of\u00a0Army-2015, an international event organized by\u00a0the Russian Defense Ministry, the Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) and state technology corporation Rostec, which will\u00a0 be held on\u00a0June 16-19.<\/p>\n

The UIMC representative has not revealed all the technical characteristics of\u00a0the equipment but\u00a0has mentioned that the impact range of\u00a0the equipment is ten kilometers and that its defense perimeter is 360 degrees.<\/p>\n

The system is capable of\u00a0out-of-band suppression of\u00a0the radio electronic equipment of\u00a0low-altitude aircraft and the assault elements of\u00a0precision weapons. The gun is able to\u00a0deactivate the equipment of\u00a0aircraft and UAVs, and neutralize precision weapons.<\/p>\n

There are currently also plans to\u00a0use the system for\u00a0testing Russian military radio electronic systems against\u00a0the impact of\u00a0powerful super-high-frequency emission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
