The ISIS terrorists have executed 16 Iraqi merchants who were transporting foodstuff from the northern strategic city of Baiji to the western city of\u00a0Haditha.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Daesh (Arabic acronym for ISIS) executed 16 Haditha traders last night,” Baiji city mayor, Abdelhakim al-Jughaifi, said on Sunday, noting that the men were first kidnapped and then were either shot to death or beheaded.<\/p>\n

“The victims were transporting mostly food goods, such as vegetables, from Baiji to Haditha,” the mayor said, adding,\u00a0“They were stopped at a checkpoint and abducted. They then executed them, some by shooting them, others by slitting their throats.”<\/p>\n

He also said\u00a0Haditha residents discovered the bodies of the victims on the road and carried them back to the city.<\/p>\n

Baiji, which is located nearly 200 kilometers north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, remains under control of the ISIS terrorists. Haditha, which lies about 130 kilometers southwest of Baiji, is the last major city in the western Anbar province.<\/p>\n

A Haditha tribal fighter, named Abu Maath al-Jughaifi, said a note was found on one of the victim\u2019s bodies\u00a0indicating terrorists’ claims that\u00a0the executions were carried out\u00a0to avenge the killing of ISIS militants during recent clashes near Haditha.<\/p>\n

Iraqi government forces backed by Shia and Sunni volunteer fighters recaptured the town Husaybah in Anbar province on Saturday as they advance towards the major city of Ramadi.<\/p>\n

Also on Saturday, security officials said the Iraqi army and the volunteer fighters jointly\u00a0repelled an ISIS\u00a0attack on the town of Khalidiya,\u00a0located\u00a0about 83 kilometers (50 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad.<\/p>\n

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been in chaos since ISIS started its campaign of terror in early June 2014.\u00a0The army and volunteer forces have been engaged in joint operations to liberate the areas under the ISIS control ever since.<\/p>\n

ISIS\u00a0is continuing to advance across Iraq’s Anbar province after consolidating its grip on areas around the recently seized city of Ramadi.<\/p>\n

ISIS was pushing further east of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, on Saturday, taking the town of Husaybah. There was also fierce fighting in Khalidiya, a town just a few kilometres from the Habbaniyah military base.<\/p>\n

The Iraqi vice president, Ayad Allawi, has said publicly that the aerial campaign is simply not working.<\/p>\n

“There are no good news from the international coalition, and there is no strategy, so I asked the Iraqi leaders to put a strategy together and to present it to the coalition,” he said. “The international coalition meets but without any results, the air strikes do not solve the problem.”<\/p>\n
