Turkey\u2019s armed forces have proclaimed\u00a0that the Kurdistan Workers\u2019 Party (PKK) has abducted two people, including a soldier, in the country\u2019s east.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members of the PKK\u00a0\u201chave kidnapped two people, including a specialist gendarmerie corporal, in the area between Merkez Mescitli village and Bostankent village in the province of Mu\u015f,\u201d the General Staff of Turkey\u2019s armed forces\u00a0said in a statement released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

An investigation\u00a0into the incident\u00a0is being carried out, the statement added.<\/p>\n

The Mu\u015f governorate reported the soldier missing on Tuesday and blamed the incident on the PKK. The group, however, has not claimed responsibility for the alleged abduction case.<\/p>\n

The fresh allegation comes amid rising tensions between Ankara and the Kurdish minority.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the offices of the pro-Kurdish People\u2019s\u00a0Democracy Party were hit by explosions in Turkey\u2019s southern cities of Adana and Mersin, leaving several people wounded.<\/p>\n

Back in April, unknown attackers also opened fire on the HDP headquarters in the capital,\u00a0Ankara, with no casualties. The government denounced the raid as a blow to Turkey\u2019s democracy and stability.<\/p>\n

The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has reportedly left tens of thousands of people dead.<\/p>\n

In March 2013, Abdullah Ocalan, the imprisoned PKK leader,\u00a0declared a historic ceasefire following months of negotiations with the Turkish government. In return, the PKK demanded amendments to the penal code and electoral laws as well as the right to education in the Kurdish language and a degree of regional autonomy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
