The envoy also urged the US to pull out its nuclear weapons stationed in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;Naturally, we will increase our forces in Crimea because NATO countries have stepped up their activities\u2026 in the immediate vicinity of our borders,<\/em>&#8221; said Russia\u2019s envoy to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Aleksandr Grushko on Friday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said Russia\u2019s military boost falls in line with international treaties. <em>\u201cThere is no ban in place prohibiting us to deploy weapons [in Crimea],\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grushko\u2019s words follow NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg\u2019s statement made on Thursday concerning the Alliance\u2019s plans to increase military activity on its eastern European borders, with more air and sea patrols, amid non-stop exercises.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;NATO is the strongest military alliance in the world and we are going to keep NATO strong by adapting,&#8221;<\/em> Stoltenberg said. NATO is planning to double its rapid response force in Europe, he said, adding that new command units will also be established in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grushko noted that NATO is harming itself by turning away from practical cooperation with Russia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<em>As of now, we do not see any NATO desire to establish new paths of practical cooperation,\u201d<\/em> he said, responding to Stoltenberg\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Russia-Military-Drill.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1330\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Russia-Military-Drill.jpg?resize=600%2C288\" alt=\"Russia-Military-Drill\" width=\"600\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Russia-Military-Drill.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Russia-Military-Drill.jpg?resize=300%2C144&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recently NATO gave Moscow updated telephone \u2018hotline\u2019 numbers for military communication, but hasn\u2019t taken the initiative to create new contacts, Grushko added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said Russia hopes NATO will abandon the policy of <em>\u201csenseless expansion<\/em>\u201d and that common sense will prevail when the Alliance decides on Georgia\u2019s and Ukraine\u2019s membership.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cI hope that common sense will ultimately prevail and these dangerous political games, related to the policy of senseless expansion and attempts to use it as a leverage, will be put aside and our partners will start treating the situation from the point of view of strengthening European security, which is in everyone\u2019s interest.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grushko was referring to a statement made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during Thursday&#8217;s NATO foreign ministers summit in Antalya. Cavusoglu expressed hope that NATO&#8217;s next summit will decide on the Alliance membership of Georgia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Russian envoy expressed certainty that there were plenty of &#8220;<em>sensible&#8221;<\/em> members in NATO that understand &#8220;the huge risks associated with continuing the reckless &#8216;Open Door&#8217; policy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since Russia\u2019s reunion with Crimea and the start of the military conflict in eastern Ukraine last spring, NATO forces have stepped up military exercises along the Russian border \u2013 in the Baltic States and Eastern Europe.
