The vessel has been built in collaboration between Pakistan and China. The launch ceremony was held at the Wuchang Shipbuilding site in Shuangliu Base, located in Wuhan, China.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf participated in the ceremony as the chief guest. During his speech at the ceremony, Admiral Naveed Ashraf emphasized the significance of maritime security given the current geo-strategic landscape in the region. He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy&#8217;s dedication to fostering a secure maritime environment for all stakeholders in the region and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, he underscored the pivotal role that Hangor-class submarines, equipped with cutting-edge weaponry and sensor technology, will play in upholding peace and stability in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also expressed satisfaction with the&nbsp;project&#8217;s&nbsp;advancement while appreciating the China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company&nbsp;Ltd.&#8217;s&nbsp;(CSOC) persistent work. (Image Credit: Pakistan Navy)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Pakistan government finalized an agreement with CSOC of China to procure 8 Hangor-class submarines during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the contract terms, four submarines will be manufactured in China, while the remaining four will be built in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard &amp; Engineering Works Ltd (KS&amp;EW) through a Transfer of Technology arrangement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Hangor-class submarines will be equipped with advanced weaponry and sensor systems, enabling them to engage targets effectively at long distances, the public relations department of Pakistani military said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Hangor-class submarine specs and features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hangor-class submarine, derived from the Chinese Type 039A Yuan class and named after the historic PNS Hangor S-131, the lead submarine of its class that played a significant role during Pakistan\u2019s 1971 war with India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly launched Hangor-class submarine\u2019s propulsion system operates through diesel engines while surfaced or snorkeling, utilizing air for combustion. Additionally, it incorporates an air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, greatly enhancing its endurance and allowing for extended periods underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an attack submarine, it has been crafted for the task of engaging and neutralizing other submarines or surface vessels through the deployment of torpedoes or, in contemporary warfare, cruise missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hangor-class submarine is equipped with six 21-inch torpedo tubes and possesses the ability to launch anti-ship missiles. Notably, it can also deploy the Babur-3 subsonic cruise missile.
