nuclear deal which would allow Seoul to develop its nuclear power generation activity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement was reached on Wednesday after more than four years of negotiations, which were launched in October 2010 to revise a 1974 agreement that banned South Korea from reprocessing spent fuel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A South Korean Foreign Ministry official said that a signing ceremony will be held in Seoul later on Wednesday, but did not give details on the contents of the deal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 40-year-old agreement has limited South Korea&#8217;s ability to enrich uranium for nuclear power generation and to recycle spent fuel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">South Korea operates 23 nuclear reactors to meet\u00a0one third of the country\u2019s annual power needs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama on Tuesday submitted to Congress a proposed 30-year agreement on nuclear power cooperation with China, which could lead to the transfer of nuclear technology and material between the two states.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe proposed agreement provides a comprehensive framework for\u00a0peaceful nuclear cooperation with\u00a0China based on\u00a0a mutual commitment to\u00a0nuclear nonproliferation,\u201d Obama said in\u00a0a letter to\u00a0Congress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt would permit the transfer of\u00a0material, equipment, components, information, and technology for\u00a0nuclear research and nuclear power production,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">AR\/NN\/HRB<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South
